Ok i don't know if this is somewhat normal for 2g turbos but when i shift into 2nd or 3rd its not nice and smooth, its very notchy. But every other gear is fine and its really not notchy all the time only sometimes. I just changed my tranny fluid to redline shockproof and it seemed to only get worse after i did it. I'm used to it but when my friends with hondus drive it they say its hard to get into 2nd and 3rd. Are my synchros bad or what? It has never been so bad where i couldn't get it into gear its just not smooth 100% of the time.

I have a 2G turbo Spyder and 3rd is notchy as hell. All of the other gears shift like butter. The funny thing is that it wasn't that way when I bought the car, but started acting up a few weeks later. Mitsubishi considered it "normal" even though one time during a test drive with a mechanic it wouldn't go into 3rd at all on one shift.. Most of the time, it's just notchy but sometimes it just flat won't go in until I go back to neutral and start over.

I read someplace that these transmissions have pretty low quality shifter forks and that they bend easily. My current theory, for what it's worth, is that I bent the fork somehow and that's causing the problem.

I use BG Synchroshift II and, when it's new, it works a lot better though never stunning. After a thousand miles or so, it's notchy again.

DSM trannies are about the most fickle piece of equipment that you could ever own. My old tranny with bent forks was notchy, and my new race tranny with billet forks is notchy. As for your honda buddies.....the clutches in hondas are very soft. They make them so your grandma can drive them. So im sure it is alot different from the soft pedal that they are used to. You can try brass inserts on your linkage cables and the billet shifter base bushings, but that does not always help with the "notchy" feeling, although it does make the shifts feel better.
