After bearing with it for almost 2000 miles, I was forced to take the tranny is back down again. because the throw-out bearing the clutch came with sucks balls(NGK I think). Its way too thick and began grinding into the diaphragm in the front, also it was pushing the Diaphragn too far back so the back of the diaphragm was grinding on the clutch plate itself. After like 30 minute of driving, It will disengage fine but the throw-out bearing wont go back, like the thrown-out bearing is stuck to the diaphragm, so it wont Engage properly causing the clutch to slip badly.

Apparently everyone forgot to tell me the bearing sucks so i had to learn the hard. this is just some info for others so they wont have to go through what I went through. So ill be going with the OEM throw-out bearing from now on.

I think its a pretty well known fact that the Metal Sleeved TOB ( which is what most manufacturer's include) and our tranny's don't mix. I have the same problem with my car (it was done before I bought it) except the TOB froze onto the Bellhousing and snapped it off. My trans is dead. Just get a TOB from the dealer, and make sure it has a plastic inner sleeve and you'll be set.

k, so I bought the new bearing and got the compare then, in thickness its the same, diameter on the OEM is a bit smaller. so the problem with mine is that it was getting stuck on the shaft itself. and with the OEM it moves back and forth freely so i'm good for now :thumb:

I'm glad I caught this post before i installed my new clutch. I ordered an ACT2100 from Slowboy Racing and it came with a NACHI-FUJIKOSHI CORP. throw-out bearing. It appears to have a gray plastic inner sleeve on it, is this a good bearing to use?

Did you grease the TOB? I've used the metal NGK bearing twice (once turbotrix installed my cltuch, and once myself) and never had a problem, Jeff also told me he has never had a problem when its installed correctly.

Mike,

The problem becomes noticeable after 40k+ miles, after your tranny sleeve has severe wear on it! It makes much more sense to wear out your $20 TO bearing inner race than a sleeve on $200 ($500 with labor) tranny housing.

Whatever grease you leave on the bearing, is gone with-in weeks. I have my tranny out of the car several times per year, so I see it all the time.

On the other side, if you have an old car with ~150k miles and you are doing what will most likely be car’s last clutch job, use whatever you got! :)

Well I have a dumb question that maybe someonee could answer.I have 3 tranneys all with TOB's in them, my ACT came with one of those NKG bearings, which I don't want to use.Is it possible to reuse one of the old ones considering getting parts is a pain in the ass?

TOB= Throw out bearing = do NOT reuse it, it's only $20.

Guys,

Just to clarify something. It appears that ACT is now using the right version of the TOB. It has the plastic inner sleeve. So, I take back what I said about them last year :).

I wonder if i got the right one. I bought my from slow boy last
jan and i have put about 20k miles on the car since and have had no issues with my clutch. Either i am really lucky or act put the correct one or slow boy swaps them for you when you order the clutch either way i have no issues with mine I swear i remember seeing that it was the tob that came with the clutch kit.

my bad i bought mine around april of 03. Maybe they did change it by then
