Tranny is giving me issues. It made a weird sound and it would no longer go forward. When I tried to go it almost sound as if it was a grind. It goes into gear good and I can let off the clutch good but when the clutch engages it makes a weird grind type noise. I put it in reverse and it went fine like nothing was wrong. Then after I drove in reverse it went forward again. But when I put a little torque on it it will act like it pops out of gear but it doesn't actully. It's still in gear just makes the grinding noise. Someone had told me it sounds like the cv axle is coming out but I checked that and they all are fine. It makes the same noise in any gear 1st-5th. Someone please help me??

I know this sounds strange but my buddy had a galant and the axel had something wrong and it would pop out and not go forward but if he went in reverse it would go back in and he could go forward.
I also had a similar problem as yours but it was shifter cables. I would check your cables first then drain the gear oils like stated above and look for metal.

That's what I've been telling you, I should know, I rebuild them. Don't believe that business in your other thread about the front wheels aren't driven via the center diff and VC, because all the wheels are driven through it.

The car can not be driven and you have proof that something is chewed up in the tranny. Might as well pull it out and get ready for a rebuild or replacement.
Just though of something: what if it was going in gear, but not all the way and edges of gears are damaged now? Although if that was the case it would most likely only be doing it in some gears, not all.

It sounds like the center diff broke. Are you talking about the two gears held on by the 36mm nuts? Put the transmission in gear, and put a 36mm socket on one nut with a breaker bar, and put your huge adjustable cresent wrench on the other nut. Loosen the nuts with the breaker bar, and allow the handle of the wrench to stop against the side of the socket. It may help to have an extra set of hands, or else you'll have to stand on one foot and get your knee in there to help hold the transmision in place on the bench.

With the nuts off, the gears should slide off without too much effort. Do not pry against the edges of the gear teeth with a screwdriver, because they chip waaay waaay waaaaay easier than you would think. You may need to lift up on the gears by hand, while someone gently taps down on the shafts with a brass drift. Remember, any hardened tools against the corners of the gear teeth are a no no.

The V/C should just slide off when you remove the retainer clip, but be careful not to lose the single ball bearing that is tucked in within the splines; that's the only thing that keeps the rear output shaft from sliding out of the case.

Ok so as it turns out, my center diff spider gears were busted. I welded my diff. When I put it back in and filled it up with gear oil I immediately noticed something was wrong as soon as I touched the shifter. I am locked out of 2nd, 4th and reverse. Also when I let out on the clutch in neutral, it trys to move forward. I also hear a loud VROOOOOOOM noise if I touch the gas. Any ideas?

Isn't what you are supposed to hear after hitting the gas? :)

Sounds like one of the clutch cables is out of adjustment, one that transmits forward-backward movement of shifter lever to the tranny. Either that or something was not put together right in the tranny (shift fork maybe?).

I was smart and didn't waste my time pulling out a transmission just to change a center diff LOL...so no I didn't run through each gear first. Also I didn't touch anything that had to do with shifter cables. Everything worked great before the diff install. I used a diagram to reassemble 5th/reverse..idk?:banghead:

I will post a link to a video tomorrow. Thanks guys!
