i was just wondering why OEM input shaft spec has endplay but the builders reccomend some preload? is it a wear issue or just so the gears wont rattle? when i did mine i used just a hair of endplay and it shifts well. I do get some gear rattle from having solid mounts everywhere but theres nothing that i can do about that and it doesnt seem to hurt anything but i was just wondering why the difference in reccomendations.

Yes the builders preload and mitsu want's play. Preload helps slow down the input shaft as soon as the clutch is pushed in. It takes load off the synchro's. It also helps keep the gears lash tight.

hmm i was thinking something along those lines. oh well , i dont forsee having any problems with endplay the way i did mine. its very minimal and shifts smooth .
