Which of the 2 companies would you recommend? Also what mods would you recommend? I am currently experiencing a 1st gear grind and I am contemplating the rebuild. Also how long can I go with this grind until things get worse? Tnanks. New to the forum.

1st gear grind could be something as simple as shifter adjustment... Have you tried any of the known fixes? BG, redline, GM tranny fluids? Symborski shift kit? ect...

I personally like BM tranny... just cuz that's who built mine.... I've heard several horror stories of people waiting several months for TRE... & then not getting their own tranny back... but that's just what I've heard.

man dont go with TRE a buddy on another forum payed $500 down and his car has been parked for at least a month or so. they wont answer the phone or his emails. funny how they answer mine! to many stories about TRE man...stay away!OMG

Not to bash TRE or anything........but has anybody noticed how they havent updated their site in.....oh.....2 years?

In the other DSM club I am in the club is split about 50/50 i think they both have there advantages and disadvantages. But in my personal oppion i would send it out to TRE, it may take longer but from what it looks like to me they hold up better...

All I have to say is go with TRE and prepair to be waiting. I waited over 2 months. Jon knows what he is doing when it comes to our transmission, but running a business is a different story. I just got done breaking in my TRE tranny and everything seems good. I think if I had to do it again I would buy upgraded parts from TRE or another source and have someone local do it. It sucks when the car is your daily driver and your stuck driving you dads old f-350 around town while your transmission is half way across the country, and someone isnt answering the phone(for days at a time).

I would go with the TRE but you will have to wait for it. So find a used one that needs rebuilt buy it and send it to him. That way you can drive your car while you wait for the new one. Mine took me a month and a half to get but they were closed for a month of that time and I did now this before I had them do it. oh and yes they have updated there site recently I don't know where he got 2 years from?

how long does a maual tranny usually last?/how many miles.and how much is it to have it rebuilt?

I just got a responce form Jon at TRE and he clames that they have done as well as a 2 Day turn around on transmissions. They are not known for speed.(unless you are talking about shifting & top end) But quality that can't be beat They have just moved in to a larger shop and have just installed 2 new CNC mills that should help them make even more trick parts. My trans is in a box being packed for shipment as I type. I'm not going to miss out on that "Dependable" DSM gearbox

TRE is a complete joke, they have the worst customer service that i have ever dealt with and you will wait a long time for whatever you order. BM trannies are just as good, they are cheaper, and you will recieve them in a timely fashion. i wish i would have known all these bad things about TRE before i placed my order there...not to mention his porting that everyone said was so great looks like my little sister took a Dremel to it.

Check out Shepherd Racing, tranny rebuild's start at 700.

I was just about to say that. From what I've heard, he makes excellant trannies and he also has great prices. I am most likely going to go with him if I ever need mine rebuilt.
