2.0 tranny with 1.8 engine?

hi a friend of mine has a 91 laser fwd with a 1.8 w/ bad tranny and can get another laser cheap with a 2.0 tranny with no engine he wants to take out the 1.8 engine and mount it on the 2.0 tranny . is this even possible to do?
ps.. both cars are automatic

yes it will work, i did a tranny swap on mine, i took a 1.8L tranny and put it on my 2.0L, both were manual, 1.8L & 2.0L auto tranny's are the same, same with manual
