I was wondering how much a new or rebuilt transmission costs for our cars. Im not looking for a performance tranny at this time. I am kind of short on cash but my second gear is really killing me. It grinds all the time. Either my synchro's are off or the tranny gears are hosed.

Anyone ever have Chrysler or Mitsubishi rebuild their tranny or purchase a new one through them and have it installed? I am looking for the cost of it installed. I called my local dealer here but they said without looking at the tranny they couldnt give me an estimate..

I just shot a gear out of my transmission so I had to replace it. At first the place told me $800 to rebuild it, new seals and bearings and whatever else. But since I had a hole in it they said I had to get a new transmsion. I found one for $650 from a junkyard with only 29,000 miles on it and its gonna be $600 for the shop to install and replace the seals. You have an AWD though so the prices might be a little more as well as I got a little bit of a discount for mine. So tack on a few more hundred dollars and that might be a good estimate. Hope that helps

Whats their website? I will check them out. I have already looked at TRE but looks like around 2500 including shipping for what I want done.

I was wondering how hard it is to take out my tranny without a lift.. I have a couple jacks that I could use... Would that work?

I am taking my tranny out and going to ship it to BmTranny.com so they can make me on heck of a tranny.

Thanks.

I do it as well as many other DSMers on jack stands, perhaps too often. Get use to it.

practice knocking your knees on palm trees. Sit and face yourself toward the passenger wheel well with tranny sitting on your knee and thigh. Raise you knees as you struggle to rumble the tranny in. Good luck.

Oooh that sounds easy! I just wrap a really thick belt around the trans, lean over the fender and try to balance myself on one foot while lifting it and kick the factory scissor jack under the trans with the other foot! Maybe that's why I don't feel the need to get a membership at the gym!
