Dynoing AWD

Need specifics of what is needed and how to dyno an awd tranny? On front wheel drive dyno!
 
Remove your outer tranny cover
Remove a clip holding down a viscous coupling
Remove viscous coupling (thing on the right)
Install welded viscous coupling or machined/welded VC (thing on the left).
Re-install the clip
Re-install the cover and fill it up with oil after RTV dries.

Once you get good at it, the entire procedure takes 20-30 min. (plus RTV drying time).

You are now in 4X4 mode, same effect as having welded center diff but it takes only 1/3rd of time to do the swap.

Now, you can disconnect your RWD and run your car in FWD.

RWD can be disconneded by many methods. Dropping transfer case (and driveshaft if you want to do drive this way) is one of the more difficult. Using JDM switchable transfer case is the easiest.

Can you drive with car like this (in a high power car) on the street, or track. What kind of drivablity issues would there be. I appreciated you detailed response.
 
I think that drivability SUCKS! I can't stand keeping my car in 4X4 mode any more than I have to. But others are perfectly fine with it. The good thing about using a welded VC is that you can try it out and decide if you can live with it.

Also, this method of achieving 4x4 mode is not as robust as using welded center diff. You can still brake your spider gears (if you still have a stock center diff). However, I am using Speed Design unit with out any problems.

Do you have any pics of where you need to weld the VC? I have yet to take it apart, but I imagine if I did, it'd be obvious. Until then, I'll have to rely on others like you. or Would it be better just to pick up a VCE and save the VC?

I just picked up a 90 GGSX. Do you know anything about the trans in a GGSX? Robustness, etc? Is a 4G63T fywheel compatable with it? It's got tired engine and I was thinking about swapping in a turbo engine and driving it for a while.
