I first posted this question in the General/Newbie forum, but did not receive much advises there.....so here it goes again.

my 3rd gear synchro is going. it grinds from 2->3 and from 4->3.

double clutching only works at certain rpms......if I rev too high in 2nd, and I want to upshift to 3, it grinds even when I double clutch.

similarly, if I am going faster than 50kph in 4th, and I dbl clutch + revmatch down to 3rd, it still grinds.

I have put in GM Synchromesh, but still facing the same problem.

Budget is tight, and i have heard from people that the 90 tranny is not worth rebuilding. Should I just buy a used tranny and replace it? or buy a pre-rebuilt tranny and pop it in?

if the 90 tranny is not much good, which tranny should I look for? which spline? Most trannys on sale comes with the transfer case. Should I get that replaced as well? Remember, budget is extremely tight. I do not think I can afford a pre-rebuilt tranny from a performance tranny shop.

Hope you guys can help me here. Right now, I can't afford to look at the performance side of things. I just want to get the car in good running condition.

Thanx in advance.

Dealing with crapped out syncro's, forget it. hit the junk yards and/or the net (dsmtrader). find what you can. i had to do the same thing. found a 92 tranny for my 94 talon. what you do then is save some money and have the broke one built by TRE or what ever. regardless, these cars are beasts. no matter what, especially if you drive like i do, any tranny will break after enough punishment. at least you didn't blow up the bell housing like i did. and that my friend, is my advice

ok....i still need to know which year's tranny is the best to get. how many splines?

how about JDM trannies? which year too?

If you have the original motor in your car you should be able to fit anything from 90-92 AWD ( they started the 7bolt in 93 i think) in either jdm or something from a yard.
