My buddy has recently swapped a 6bolt 4g63 into his 91 Honda CRX SI and has had the worst luck getting a hold of a good turbo fwd transmission. He has 2 perfectly good AWD trannys and we were wondering if anyone knew what the procedure was to convert it into a FWD trans

EDIT: and Im talking about taking apart the AWD trans and modifying it so all the power is put into the front wheels

EDIT2: I found a thread. but I dont exactly understand. just welding the center diff seems too easy...?

It's more work than it is worth. Find a shop that is willing to trade one of the AWD tranny's and $100 for a FWD tranny.

You'd have to swap the cases and eliminate the center diff. If you are willing to do this then you might as well pick up a FWD tranny from a scrap yard and rebuild it.

we've picked up 3 fwd trans from the JY one was missing 2nd gear so we took it back for refund and the 2nd one was grinding in every gear, traded it for a non turbo trans and hes saying the clutch hes using wont work or something with the flywheel and he has 2 AWD trannys. I just got off the phone with him he said he was going to weld the center diff along with the viscous coupling? I dont know much about transmissions, but this guy is jobless so he cant just call up TRE and order a spool and a VCE In the meantime were looking for someone to trade us a fwd turbo trans for an awd one

Also converting would be freakin crazy. I know peoplehave just disconnected the driveshafts for fwd dyno pulls, unless there is a kit..And what would be even crazier...Do a custom awd conversion... You would have to have a driveshaft custom built, but would be ridiculously awsome when finished...Good Luck..

Thats what the original intent was, however the CRX chassis he is currently using is a little too beat up to dive into an AWD conversion, its his 2nd shell, the first one he started hacking up the back and realized it would be ALOT of custom work for the rear, unlike the front end which so happened to almost bolt right in for him.. I convinced him to do a fwd setup until we can find a clean chassis to start fresh and work on the rear end first so we know that its possible.. Our goal now is 10's with just 550's/2g maf/16g/safc and slicks

That's a hell of a goal my freind..My buddy from arizona is running a 13.3 at 7200 feet.I don't know what he is running back in arizona yet. I met him at wyotech so that's why I said 7200 feet. he's only got a b18c1, with no tune or nothing. Your from Illinois so i'll ask my buddy's from around my area if they know where to locate a clean crx!!!I'm only like 10 miles from the Ia,Il,WI border so thats not too far to come is it?

naw not at all.. yeah with the dsm engine, and how well it reacts to mods and it being in a car that weighs half as much as the one it came from. Im pretty confident breaking 10's wont be a problem!
