pretty soon, i'm sending out a core transmission to be rebuilt, and before it goes back in, i want to put a clutch on. what tips should i know before attempting this, as i have never done a clutch before? and it's probably gonna be an ACT of some sorts if it matters....

Make sure the clutch is stepped correctly per the reccomended manufacturer specs, otherwise with an aftermarket clutch such as an ACT you may have engagement or disengagement problems.

When you reinstall the flywheel make sure you locktite the bolts anf torque them down good.

There's a helpful Clutch install VFAQ.

Good luck,
