What could cause a clutch to suddenly "die"

The setup literally has less than 200 miles on it. Its a 91 AWD that i am brining back from the dead, just freshened up the motor, ported head, 272s, SBR cast manifold, E316g, Front mount, meth inj, 22psi.

When i first got the car i put in an XTD Stage 3 Ceramic clutch, often called an "ebay clutch." It was holding the power fine, and shifting good. The other day i was boosting up in 4th at a lower speed, and all of a sudden the clutch just let go, slipping very badly. You can hold the car still with the clutch out its so bad. I used the TO bearing that came with the clutch kit, not an OEM one.

Is it possible that even though the pedal is coming back all the way the clutch mechanism isn't? Or am i just paying the price for going cheap on an important part?

Your foot is the fastest way to kill a clutch.

Your already beating on the car before you break the clutch in, thats why it failed.

I bought one and it still to this day holds everything I through at it (1.5yrs). The clutch isnt the problem.

When did i say i beat on the car? There are plenty of people who have had great experience with XTD. And, as long as the clutch isn't slipping, it doesn't matter what rpm or power level is going through it.

even if it just slipped i can't see it going from brand new to completely worn or glazed all of a sudden. either something broke, the springs lost pressure, or the system isn't returning all the way.

If the clutch was not cleaned before you put the car back together, and you touched and oiled put the flywheel or clutch disc and pressure plate contact spots, you can easily glaze the surfaces. Especially if there was not a break-in period. You can also check to see if the clutch pedal needs to be adjusted. I've seen plenty of people that kill a clutch after 3-4 months and never adjusting the clutch or bringing it back. "It just had this funny smell and all of a sudden, the clutch stopped working" means you killed it yourself, time for a new one.

it was still in the break in period, about 200 miles down. Pedal is adjusted well, and it wasn't slipping.

Best idea for break in period is to TRY and stay out of boost, not hard but you have to do it. Buy a 6 puck, slip it a few times and go for a ride
