I have a 2G eclipse FWD. Looks at options for building up the tranny before building the engine. I want a LSD but is there anything else that can be done to strengthen the tranny or make it shift better at higher rpms, ie 8K? Thank you!

I would email Jack at jackstransmissions.com. I think he will build you a fwd tranny with awd components that will strengthen it. Also he will install any lsd you want to add. I dont think its that much either since fwd's are way less harsh on the tranny and they last a lot longer.

A stock rebuild doesn't cost too bad. My suggestion would be to take a look at Dogbox racing's website about what they replace in the transmissions. www.dogboxracing.com

* 1-2 hub/sleeve
* 3-4 hub/sleeve
* 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear
* 2nd gear double cone syncro
* 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & reverse syncros
* both tapered input shaft bearings
* both tapered intermediate shaft bearings
* both half shaft seals, input shaft seal, & output shaft seal
* Modified stock forks
* welded center differential

Upgrades:

* 3rd & 4th gear double syncro $250
* 4 spider diff upgrade $350 (add $250 to the race build)
* Viscous eliminator for welded diffs $40
* Needle thrust bearing upgrade for center diff cap.
Excellent preventative measure to save your stock or 4 spider diff $100
* Double syncro 2nd on early model 90's, call for pricing
* Welded center differential $100
* Clutch Change/ R&R Trans for DSM's starting at $ 225
for EVO's starting at $ 500

The stuff in bold is the things you really want for higher RPM shifting. As far as LSD's the price all depends on the brand of LSD you want. Most people will recommend the Quaife lsd for daily driving and the Kaaz for Drag strip racing. I had the Kaaz in my FWD and i found no problems driving with it daily and it gave the car much more of a handling increase. All trannies will break depending how you drive your car. And as far as AWD internals being strong I doubt it, materials used in the transmissions are the same just different gear ratios.

What are your goals with the car? How much power are you planning on putting to the wheels? The FWD units have a pretty weak gear set, so a lot of people are buying AWD units and modifying them to work in the FWD.

If you want to keep your FWD trans, I can double synchro all of your gears and use our huge super double synchros for your 3rd and 4th. Not just the smaller double synchros everyone else uses. Keep in mind though, that shifing at high RPM has more to do with clutch than with the synchro. Any synchro and any tranny can shift at 10K RPM. The bigger the synchro though the faster it can go into gear and the longer it will last. Plus, drivng around town with nice large double synchros makes for a nice daily driver too.
