Hi guys, i got a '91 talon AWD that has been sitting for like a year because of an electrical problem. I got it for cheap specting i could easily fix it.

And i already fixed the electrical problem, it was a bad CAS and leaky caps on the ecu.

But when i drove test the car i foundout that the 1st and 2n gears grind a lot, i mean A LOT!
Yo don't even feel any resistance when trying to downshift from 3rd to 2nd, 2nd to 1st or going from 1st to 2nd. Like if the synchros or something were not functioning. The gear shifter just slides in with no force making a scaring grinding sound. :(

Could be an easy fix like replacing the gearbox fluid or it's something really bad?

I think clutch is fine. It doesn't grind when the car isn't moving.
And when pressing the clutch doesn't drag either.
But the fluid must be 16 years old probably.
maybe the oil level is too low. (i'll check that)

I've read that GM synchromesh oil is good for problematic synchros.

But do you guys think it needs a rebuild?

That car is bone stock, driven by a lady (i don't know what's worst hahaha).
So it hasn't seen any hard launches or races, just regular driving in city. (lots of 1st and 2nd use i guess)

I changed tranny fluid and now it doesn't grind anymore.
Maybe 1st gear it does a little once in a while but that thing has improved 100%!

That old fluid was 16 years old and the car was sitting for almost a year too. So new synchromesh and everything turned good.

Thanks though.

Guys i already wrote above that replacing the fluid fixed the grinding. :D

Hope it will last long.

Hi guys. I have bad news. It was too god to be true i guess. :(

It seems that when cold it still grinds a lot. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear (this one not so bad).
But when the car is hot it shift perfect. No grinding at all

Time to rebuild right?:(
