First off the car is my brother's 97 GSX with Clutch Master Stage III clutch. He encounter the problem driving home from work, cruising along about 70mph, 5th gear pops out. Unable to get it back into gear, he is able to smash it into 3rd making it home.

Well here is the dilemma, we cannot get into any gears while the car is on. However, when the car is off we are capable of selecting any particular gear with ease. We did the basic troubleshooting: checking the master/slave, which was both leaking so we replaced both with new OEM parts. Bleed the hell out of the system, still unable to get it into any gears with the car on. We also checked to make sure the lines are not leaking.

Our last option is break the clutch apart to see if the clutch disc is shattered. What other items should I check? Is it even the clutch or is it the transmission?

Thanks in advance.

My guess woudl be the clutch. if it goes into gear fine with car off than the tranny is most likely fine. I would adjust clutch pedal height first off and make sure the clutch is actually disengaging (which would describe the problem perfectly). try that and report back :thumb:

Austin,
We have tried adjusting the clutch pedal quite a few times, however the end result is the same. The clutch is disengaging also, so we have ruled out many of our possible problems.

We are just making sure we cover everything prior to cracking the clutch housing. I am suspecting a shattered disc, hopefully it is the problem. If it is my clutch master clutch, which only yeilds 8,000 miles, I would consider it a piece of crap or the installation done by a local mechanic was fubar. This is why we are doing it ourselves this time, not only because we are out of money but to make sure it is done properly.

Thanks again Austin for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Well to let everyone know, I solved my problem. I figured it would be my clutch disc and it actually was. The disc was shattered, one of the springs popped off, and a portion of the disc was cracked.

I have some pics of it, if anyone just wants to see how long a Clutchmaster stage III clutch last. It only had about 10k on it, however we had quite a few "no holds barred launches". We recieved our ACT 2600 and we will be testing to see how long this will hold up.

Thanks again Austin for your reply.

Clutch should be on by this weekend.
