Im lookin at this 91 TSi AWD, guy converted it from AWD to FWD for whatever reason. Im looking into gettin it, plus hes gonna throw in the AWD trans and x-fer case no charge. My question is the rear end shouldnt have been affected by this correct? He put in a FWD trans, so there was no x-fer case or anything like that. I didnt know if maybe just driving it around like that would affect it at all. Ive heard never ever tow an AWD vehicle, except on a flat bed. I never really understood why. Forgive me, Ive been into Chevy's for a while and havent dabbled in AWDs that much OMG :)

Personally, I wouldn't get it. Such shade-tree mechanic antics only mean more problems for you down the road.

But, if you're dead set on this, at a minimum, you'll need an AWD transmission (why didn't he put it in if he has it), transfer case, and driveshaft. There shouldn't be an damage to the rear end from driving the car around as a FWD.

You don't want to tow an AWD vehicle with a regular tow truck because it'll destroy the center differential in the transmission.

thanks dude. Im stil debating about getting it or not. If I do get it, he said hes got all the parts to turn it back into an AWD. So thats an upside, x-fer case, trans, and driveshaft all for free.

$1500 plus all the parts to make it an AWD. But the more I look at the car, the more I can see the Mickey Mouse work thats been done to it. Im not sure Im gonna be getting it, but Im still debating.

beeing a member of this board while owning a N/T made me want a AWD Turbo really bad. but i did the right thing a waited until the situation was good and everything looked as good as it was supposed to.

hold off on this car and look somewhere else.

your AWD DSM is out there, keep looking for it.

I was in your position at one point ... minus the AWD > FWD deal, but definitly a shity buy. I ended going through with it and had nothing but problems with the car :notgood:

I agree with siceclipse ... keep looking :thumb:
