I am in need of 2nd gear synchronizers for my 91 Talon AWD and was wondering the best place to purchase these and any other parts (seals, shims, etc...) that may be needed for a "very basic" rebuild. Also any prices and tips from you guys that have done the job yourself would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have the typical grinding (1st to 2nd & 3rd to 2nd) and NO other problems. 6 months ago I changed the fluid to Pennzoil Synchromesh and it helped out considerably until recently, so I just simply want to repair the 2nd gear grinding for as cheap as possible without purchasing a new/rebuilt trans. I have access to all necessary tools (hydraulic press, micrometers, etc...) and have gone through Nissan 5-spd RWD & FWD, Isuzu 5-spd RWD, and old 3 & 4-spd Saginaws tranmissions for past experiences.

It amazes me how many people think that just throwing in a syncronizer will fix all there problems. Ever think the that loud grinding noise is the slider grinding away at your gears?

Unless you know exactly what you're doing, just save yourself the headaches and frustration and send your trans to TRE or Shep for their basic rebuild.

I know ~$900 is still a lot of cash, but it's a lot better having a guarantee than doing it yourself and finding out you effed something up and having to tear everything back apart.

I'm cheap...I would rather pull my tranny apart multiple times to get it perfect than pay $900 for someone else to do the work. :D

I'm pretty sure Shep stopped selling individual parts but I would get upgraded parts over stock if you have the money.

True but the 2nd gear synchro on our cars is what goes the most and it is the most likely culprit, of the grinding from 1st to 2nd.
