OK, here's the deal; I have a high mileage 5 speed tranny AWD. On decel, the tranny kinda whines, also when I rev to around 4500 there is kind of a whine sound, like high fequency vibration, I think it's coming from the tranny. Also shifting into 1st above like 1 MPH is a No No, and when going into 3rd you have to be precise and firm or it might grind a bit.
Well I want to get the most miles out of this tranny as I can, it has a new clutch, so I want to see if I can get it to at least last as long as a new clutch.
A while back I put Redline MT 90 in the tranny, it feels better then the old nasty gear oil that was in there before. One thing I noticed is when I very fast drove it after the new gear oil, it was really thick feeling, and almost hard to shit (you had to push a little firmer), but not quite. I actually like that feeling cause it made it where there was less play in the shifter.
But then after I drove it a while it felt normal. I mean once the new gear oil was warmed up, it pretty much just felt like a normal worn tranny, although this thing shifts ok once you are used to it (besides downshifting into 1st which sucks).
Well I was thinking of doing a custom mix of like 1 Quart Redline Shockproof, and the rest MT90. Would that give it that thicker feeling? Seems to help cushion the gears.
What custom mixes have you used, why and what was the result?
Just trying to find out whaty kinda gear "potions" people have come up with mixing various gear oils.
