When I was removing my slave cylinder, three ball bearings fell out. Does anyone know what they are for? Do I need to worry about getting some replacements, or does a new slave cylinder include these? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you have a pretty bad slave cylinder, since you have it out I would just replace the whole slave cylinder... I think they are about $50 or so at your local car part store..

Good Luck :thumb:

I already replaced the unit. The question is, were those ball bearings part of the tranny or part of the slave cylinder? In other words, do I need to worry if the replacement slave cylinder didn't have ball bearings floating around in the box it came in? Also, just out of curiosity, does anyone know what function these things serve?

I cannot envision where you would have found ball bearings anywhere near the slave cylinder. It's two bolts, a banjo bolt, an iron cylinder, an aluminum piston, a spring, nitryl seal and a pushrod and dust cover. No ball bearings to be found.
What the hell did you take apart?

Haha, it's a good question. I've still got the ball bearings here, so I know I didn't halucinate. I'm thinking that the idiot who owned this car before me did something really stupid to the clutch. The engine that was in it was a seven bolt that walked. He clearly thought it was a clutch problem because there was all sorts of weird stuff done to the clutch system (which was why I replaced the slave cylinder in the first place). Maybe this is a continuation of this stupidity. Thanks for the help. Unless someone says otherwise or the clutch self destructs, I'll just assume everything's fine. Now that's the true DSM spirit.

Haha, Defiant and Justins, if the car doesn't explode in a ball of flames, you two can fight over the parts. In a perfect world, it would be a fight to the death, but I'm not too picky. As long as there's violence in the parting out of the car, I'll be happy.
