Edmonton,
My girlfriend has a 95 auto n/a talon - when the car is put into revers the tranny goes crazy - makes noises and clunks around - driving normally in drive through is MINT! this just started happening the other day. Mechanic says its approximately a 8-9 hour job to take tranny out and put it back in , plus whatever the tranny guy charges. could this be anything besides something internal? or am i definetely screwed and have to take out the tranny? 8 hours sound right? please tell me can be something besides internals - car has 160 kilometers

took the car for a rip today... ONLY happens when i brake. i dont get it, otherwise the brakes are MINT.

I would think 8 hours is a little much for r&r of a trans and it's not awd. I think I'd get a second opinion. I charged 5.5 for a 2000 trans r&r for a clutch job on a v-6 no less.

If it's doing harsh things in reverse and no where else then most likely it's got to come out. I don't have my trans manual here, but will try to remember to bring it home tomorrow night.

Just don't make it worse by constantly sticking it in reverse.

good Luck
