explain clutch chatter

It is an audible noise, not so bad when you engage the throttle. Very bad and more annoying during de-cel while in gear. Of course, the chatter is worse depending on what puck disc you have. Less pucks - more sound. I used to have a 3 puck and it was pretty bad. 6 puck is much better.

can you describe what the sound is like, high pitch, grinding, etc........if you looked @ the link I have posted, they have three different styles of disc's, i was looking @ the sintered iron, will this have really bad chatter however will it outlast the ceramic puck style disc's

someone has to know a little bit more about this topic??? Need to know ASAP!@!

From what I see, none of those disks are sprung. That means there is virtually no dampening occuring when the clutch is being engaged.

I used to drive on a 6-puck 2100 and I can tell you, the clutch is either engaged or not engaged. There is almost no slip or in between point at lower rpms. I never ever had chatter on decelleration but almost always was 'jerked' when I didn't rev the motor enough to get going from a stop. Un-sprung disk are not for the whiners who complain about creeks and jerkiness in a car.

Clutch chatter is not only audible, but you feel it in the car as well. If you have poly motor mounts its even worse. If you have poly motor mounts and a light flywheel, its even worse! I have an ACT 2600 with a full face street disk, poly motor mounts, and ACT flywheel and it chatters light hell when you try to inch forward. You learn how to drive it real quick.
I wouldnt recommend any of those for street use.

well i appreciate your quick responses, however, I need to know what will be the best bet for my money, I noticed that ACT does not make a sprung 4 or 6 puck disc however clutch masters do make a sprung version.

Now comes another thing i need to know, will the ceramic absorb tranny fluid if it would happen to get flung on it, and how long do they last.

What is the deal with the sintered iron, do they last, and I wonder what the engangment is like on them.

So pretty much its down to these two.....what do you think?

Well, the sintered iron disk is unsprung. I would go with the first one personally. I dont quite understand why you want to know if it will absorb oil. Its obviously not good for oil to get on any kind of clutch disk. I doubt it would just absorb all the oil and still work fine if thats what your asking. Oil doesnt ever dry, therefore it will negatively affect ANY clutch.

Hope that helps.
