i have a blown 92 talon tsi AWD 5spd tranny that needs to be replaced and i found a 1994 5spd AWD talon tranny will this 1994 tranny work on my 1992? thanx

if you have an early 92, like i do, you prolly have a 6bolt motor. if it's late 92 you have a 7 bolt.

the 94 was a 7 bolt, so check everything before you get it.

but if yours is 7 and so is the trans, it will work.

i know for sure mine is a 6 bolt. so do the 6bolt engines really have different transmission then the 7 bolt and if so what is the difference

yes, they have a different tranny.

and the difference. . .

6 bolts in the flywheel, to 7 bolts in a flywheel. thats the most obvious. and in turn, the bolt patterns don't match up.

you need a 6bolt tranny.

well its a 5 speed not an auto so why should the bolt pattern matter. am i right

Tranny's are not 6 bolt or 7 bolt they are 1g or 2g. The 1g has a different mount point than a 2g does. The trans from a 1g or 2g will bolt upto either motor, it's where it bolts upto the sub frame that makes the difference. Any 1g trans will work in a 1g car. It won't work in a 2g car unless you convert 3 mounts over to the 1g style, even then whats the point.

a 1994 transmission is the same thing as a 1992 transmission. itll work. Just make sure the output shaft that the transfer case goes onto has the same spline count. Should, but just double check. Otherwise its 100% a direct bolt-on swap.

Use the search button if u wanna find out what the difference between 1g 6/7bolt motors are.

well shit, sorry all.

i thought that was the big difference btwn the motors.

what is the difference then? anything you could see without pulling the motor?

HAHAH thats just it you "Thought" :sneaky:

Sorry to hijack this thread but i had a local performance shop rebuild my transmission awhile back when the engine was being swapped for a 6 bolt he changed all snyco's and 2,3 gear from a tranny just laying around. well it works fine shifts great but the car is noticeably slower than what it was at redline in 3rd I'm at around 85-90 instead of 105-110 that i had before so i guess what I'm asking is the gearing different to make me trap lower speeds? thanks
