I just swapped a transmission out of a 91 FWD auto into a 91 FWD auto. The old trans had the code f4a33k1up61 then al1427 below it. The new trans had the same f4a33k1up61 but then below was different with a af0274. While the tranny was off I had the torque converter rebuilt at a local shop.

Here is the problem. After I put a bolt through to the torque converter and go to rotate the motor to put in the next torque coverter bolt everything comes to a complete stop. I made sure the trans was in the neutral position and it was. I even tried it at every possible spot for the selector. Something else that seemed strange was when I was bolting up the trans I heard a few pops coming from either the torque convertor or the transmission. I'm fairly sure the torque convertor was resting all of the way in the trans when bolting it up. Please Help!

BTW, the trans I was swappin in was recently rebuilt and had no problems when it came out.

THANKS!

I just noticed there is an auto trans section. Maybe a moderator could move this topic over into that forum. Thanks.

The first time the trans was installed the torque convertor probably wasn't in all of the way. I just got off the phone with two transmission shops and it appears I may have broken some gears or something in the transmission pump. IPT trans has excellent customer service.

Just for the record, I broke a gear in the pump on the transmission. It split into three pieces. I've learned from others to never "suck" an auto trans onto the engine block by tightening the bolts.
