Waltham,
Hey, I read a lot of threads from this page and previous pages but could not find a similar problem so here it is:
When I am driving there is a slight noise that I can only describe as metal rubbing slightly against something else metal. It is fairly quiet and depending on speed becomes louder. When I push the clutch in the noise becomes louder until the clutch is completely depressed at which point it is as loud as it would be if I were driving in gear. I do not have trouble getting into gears or with gears grinding.
The noise still occurs when I am rolling in neutral and again, gets louder if I push the clutch in to an area where it would engage if I were in a gear. I took my mechanic for a ride today and he thought it was a bearing in the transmission and nothing clutch related. He put it up on a lift and the tranny does have fluid in it. I drove at about 2500rpms on the lift and he listened to the lift w/a stethescope (thought it was a neat idea), and after looking at it up on the lift he still figured it was a bearing in the transmission.
What do you guys think? Has anyone had a similar problem? I had been thinking about selling my car but I'd really prefer to fix all the problems so my car does not become someone elses nightmare. If I can pinpoint the problem I may try and fix it but I don't want to just guess. Help me out guys!
Also, I don't know if this is related but since it has been making this noise my turbo has only been boosting to about 9lbs and it is really high pitched instead of the 15lbs I had it set at, and I know the MBC was not changed.
Clutch is stock fwiw

I did not drive the car hard (normal highway driving) or use the brakes real hard... It tranny bearings were on thier way out is it even possible for them to make a smell that would somehow get out of the tranny?
