Is This a tranny prob?

Parked in neutral my car has no prob. reaching redline, yet in motion I cannot exceed approx. 4000 rpm without a rattling noise occuring from engine bay. I thus do not go above this rpm unsure of the cause. Is it possible that the tranny is shot?
Sorry if this is not enough info. but at the moment that is all I have.

tranny prob will not be rpm dependent...either engine or clutch assembly issue...

got the same problem .. its not the engine its something u gotta remove from under the car.

Feel a little stupid but the noise was coming from my Rnr cat. hitting the heat shield. Bent the shield out of the way, no more noise.
