about a third of the time i put my car into reverse, it grinds as i move the shifter into reverse. once it's into reverse, it's fine. a dsm buddy said to try having the car rolling back ever so slightly and then put it into reverse, and that doesn't seem to work, still grinds every so often. any ideas?

it's possible that your clutch isn't disengaging fully and since reverse doesn't have syncro's you can notice it with that gear... But I'm not positive on that..

I often have to double clutch to get the car into reverse. Meaning it wont go in unless I engage the clutch a tad to line things up. If that is not what you are talking about then yes you clutch may be out of alignment by means of not being machined right or you could have air in your clutch line and a bleeding may help.

How are the other gears?

reverse is not syncro'd ... you either need a clutch adjustment and / or a new idler gear. Possibly an input shaft as well if you want a fresh start with reverse.

other gears are flawless, clutch is brand new though on a brand new flywheel...
