Thunder Bay,
I decided it was time for a tranny fluid change, and I saw that almost everyone on DSM Tuners reccommended Pennzoil Synchromesh. I drove all aroudn town trying to find it, but I ended up buying AC Delco Synchromesh from the GM dealer here. Is this the same stuff, or is it compeletely different than the Pennzoil?? :talon:

Get the GM Synchromesh, it's very good. It's recommended on supra, nsx, and a lot of other forums including this one.

Okay, the Pennzoil/AC Delco/GM Synchromesh is good stuff for the FWD and AWD transaxle, but should I use the same stuff in the transfer case and rear end too, or would it be better to use a synthetic or something else for the t-case and rear end??

Additionally, do I need any sort of additive for the lsd rear end (I'm thinking no since it's a viscous, but thought I'd ask anyway).

The plan right now is Pennzoil Synchromesh for the Transaxle and Mobil 1 gear lube for the t-case and rear end, unless someone convinces me otherwise.

On the bottle of AC Delco synchromesh, it says something like "specifically designed for GM vehicles". I got it from the GM dealership, and they said they don't carry any other kind. Is this what you're talking about by GM synchromesh??

Yeah, that's the stuff. It should say on the bottle that it meets GM specification 9985648, but either way you're good to go.

Pennzoil Synchromesh Fluid can be purchased as that brand or as the equivalent products: Quaker State Synchromesh (Quaker State is part of Pennzoil), Texaco Synchromesh, GM Synchromesh, or AC Delco Synchromesh (part number 89021808). GM Synchromesh retails for about $10 per quart bottle at GM dealerships. Pennzoil Synchromesh is sold at many Auto Zone auto parts stores for about $5 per quart and should be available from Pennzoil distributors. Texaco Express Lube stores use Synchromesh but the stores I contacted would not sell the product by itself to customers. Pennzoil Synchromesh can be purchased in 5-gallon containers from oil-store.com.

Sounds like a good plan to me. The Synchromesh helps shifting in manual transmissions with brass synchros. However, it seems thinner than the standard 75W-90 oil that is recommended for the DSM tranny/differentials. Since there is no need to worry about brass synchros/shifting in the center/rear differentials, I would say go with a decent 75W-90 gear oil.
