Ok I swear this is the last JDM GVR4 tranny question
Ok I am purchasing a JDM galant GVR4 trans with the transfer case. will i need to change the rear diff yet? or what will i need to do?.. help is greatly appreciated! :) thanks a bunch!!!
oh yea, i have a 93 tsi with a 90 6bolt in it...

O.k. here is what I have complied with a little research and talking with Shepard on this....

TsiArt01 is right that the ring and pinion have to be switched on the JDM GVR4 tranny to match up the gearing for the GSX Eclipses. However, SOME of the JDM trannys seem to have worked in our cars, there are quite a few people I have found that have been running them with no problems for a couple years or longer. Shepard also said he has heard that people have had no problems as well as others who have had problems.

This leads me to believe that there are atleast two different JDM trannys gear wise. John told me to look at the shift leaver on the tranny and if it was the same as my GSX then it quite possibly could be the same gearing but if it was diff. then it would more than likely be different gearing wise. I am having pictures sent over to me of the one I am picking up. I will then forward it to Shepard to see if he can deduct anything from the photos. Hope this helps.

I intend on purchasing a 23 spline tranny. I'm not sure whether I should get one from a vr4 or a galant gsx (non turbo), both jdm. Which do you think I should go with? What kind of gearing problems do people have?

man i dont know what to do... I have done ring and pinion swapis in mustangs before but a talon... never done it.. backlash is a bltch. i never did it with my mustangs got lucky somehow :) do i need a new crush sleeve for the ring and pinion swap? is there one for a DSM? I wish I new the ratio on the trannys

Call up Shepard racing, and ask him. He is hella cool. I am having him do my tranny. Good luck man. Hey... is your shifter arm the same as a 1990 or the 1991-94?? You might not need to regear you know..... Let me know.
