Ok I have a helmet I used for my go kart(dont make fun I was out in 2 feet of snow wile yopu guys were stuck at home), anyways it has 2 stickers on the back of it the first one is a "snell M90 DOT" the other is in the same print and color right next to it "58". Do these mean its certified? What do I need for this to be a "legal" helmet for the track?

Also once you run 13s you need a helmet right?
Thanks
Andrew

Snell is what you need, check with your sactioning body to find out if 90 is new enough for them. Different outfits have different rules.

"Though the name William "Pete" Snell may not be familiar, anyone who enjoys motorcycling, automotive racing, skiing, horseback riding, bicycling, in-line skating and/or skateboarding, they should know about the Snell Memorial Foundation.

As a memorial to Pete, a group of scientists, physicians, racing colleagues and friends teamed together in a dedicated effort to promote research, education, testing and development of standards geared to improve the effectiveness of automotive racing helmets. Through their work, the Snell Memorial Foundation was established in 1957. The Foundation has a Board of Directors that oversee the Foundation's operations. The board is comprised of Medical Doctors and Ph. Ded research scientists and engineers, all of which have distinguished themselves in the areas of safety and/or head injury. "

do you mean the year of manufacture? or the number they put on the back of the helmet? Thanks for the reply.
Andrew

Snell M90 would be 1990 model year helmet. There should also be a production date on the helmet also, as snell 90's were made for I think 5 years or so. Some sanctioning bodies also require a helmet be no older than so many years. The "M" designation means it is a motorcycle helmet. I belive the only difference is that the "M" helmets are not required to be made of flame resistant materials as they are not being used in confined spaces (like a car). Many sanctioning bodies will no let you use "M" helmets.
