How much can the weather (heat) affect your times?

I went to the track this weekend and it was about 90 outside. The last time I went there I was running a best of 13.3 at 98 mph. This time i had my 550's and safc installed and tuned (as good as I can get it with a logger) and the best time I could pull was a 13.4 at 100 ( and this time it was at 18psi comp. to 16psi last time). Whats up? Is it the weather?

heat has ALOT to do with it...the hotter it is the harder it is for the i/c to cool down the air.......im the same way...after i threw all these mods on my car i can only manage a [email protected] see you live in algonquin......i live in chicago.what track do you go too...i went to greatlakes over the weekend.......

Yeah. I went up to GLD in Wisc. for the ImportWars. I thought I was going to be running low 13's, maybe high 12's, but that was waaayyy off. Which car were you in? Did you race in any class?

i raced in the b class...i was hoping to get in the quick 16 but only could get a best of 13.3................the sad part is that i was running 112 also...
i was in a red 1g talon.....i ordered my pocketlogger today.....how hard is it to use.....i need all the help i can get.......

I was in the B class too. I got beat in the first round by that white neon. It sucked. The logger is pretty easy to use, plus since you have a 1g, you can see knock, unlike us 2gs who oly have timing to go by. I thought I was gonna be a lot quicker than that though, I was only on 93oct. though, no race gas.

yeah i lost in the first round to the ford probe gt...hes got a wicked topend..it was like 112mph....i was killing him till half track then he blew by me......where do you get your car worked on....a.m.s...did you ever get it dyno tuned.....

Ive done all the work and tuning myself (sept for the clutch). Im goin up to AMS on Wed to get my Tokico HP suspension on.

Yeah, I thought I was gonna race the gt, but he pulled out of the way and the neon pulled up. I was like " what the hell man!?"

Yes, weather affects your E.T. Many things do. The effects become greater at greater speeds and faster E.T.'s. Things like density altitude, elevation, temperature and humidity all play parts in the way your car runs as well.

You guys want me to help ya tune the car? The weather doesn't affect turbo cars THAT much. Trust me. I was at the event as well. I set a new pump gas record taht day for the FP Green. I was the blue 1G running Quick 16.

Cuz if the weather plays that big a factor, that means I should be good to see 11.30's on pump gas :)

NJR, if you need help tuning that 1G, lemme know. I can work wonders with an AFC and a pocketlogger :)

Mike

I was there too.. pulled my best time ever w/ my car 14.09 @ 96

The last time i was at the track (same mods) i ran a 14.1 so the heat didnt really bother my car too much.

But yeah, i believe i talked to both of you there... i was walkin around with the guy that had the 3kgt vr4. I had the 95 black talon that won C class.

I would think that it would also be how the car was tuned too. What about how much gas you have in your tank? Does that matter that much?

The only way i can tune my car is by taking off the valve cover breather tube out of my intake... and the one from the charcole canister to suck in a little bit of un metered air to get rid of the rich conditon my car has with race gas. And i did that last time at the track.

stock exhaust + stock fuel system + no electronics = ghetto rigged tuning.

:D

my logger is useful to tell me if i should take of 1 or 2 of the vacume lines off of the intake though.

Whats suprizing though is that by taking those 2 vacume lines off it improved my et by .5 seconds OMG

I dont know. Most of the times I went to the track, it was night time and it was pretty cool out. This is the first time that I raced in the day and got it timed.

hey noslo2pto i would appreciate if you would help me with the tuning...i just got my pocketlogger and are about to make some wot runs on the highway....ill pm them to you if you want to help......

NJR: sure go ahead. I cleared out my inbox, so you should be able to send them. Just make sure you give me all details of the car, and details of the logs, psi, octane, AFC settings, etc.

Thanks,
Mike

BTW, I did a few pulls this morning. 26psi and 0 knock!!! Unfortunately, according to the logs, the damn car is faster when I run it leaner, which results in knock and pulled timing. But, I'll still take the slightly slower speeds vs. a blown motor with ANY knock on 26psi and pump gas, right JDMAWD??

I totally agree. I can tell a big difference in performance when it's a very hot and humid 85 degrees outside, compared to a cold and dry 40 degrees. The colder the better IMO. If I'm not mistaken, most of the drag strips already correct for elevation, temps etc after a run.

I actually don't know if tracks correct for that type of thing but my guess is that they do not.

Why do you keep putting my name in your posts? 25-26 PSi old news, didn't you say you ran your fastest time with 14 counts of knock? Please make a consistent point. Even at 26 psi a few counts of knock will not blow your motor:rolleyes:Please go away and stop swinging from you nut sack. That's right running 12:1 A/F will blow your motor also right.

the weather can strongly effect your track times. I have some budys with supras and when they run in the summer which isnt very often at like 90 degrees and even higher there times are terrible but in the winter when its like 40 degrees they said the weather can effect there times like 5 to 6 tenths of a second so i think that could be your time problem.

can you feel a difference in your car durring mid day and night at say 9pm...I know I can.
