I just got a 1g FWD 5spd and im looking to find some good street tires for drag... any advice would be nice. Im running a 16g and full 3 inch exhaust and cant get any traction untill 3rd gear :ohdamn:

Thanks guys

Need a little more info to get any helpful advise, whats your budget, whats their use (all season, summer only, daily driver or weekend warrior, etc), milage you hope to get from them, rim size, etc.

If you want really good traction drag radials are defently your best bet (such as the BF Goodrich DR's) but depending on your answers to the above questions, may not be the route you want to take.

Money isnt a problem, its a daily driver, all season... 17inch rims... i live in the NW so i need something fairly good in the rain...

Sounds like a warm season tire is okay (some of these won't work at all once the compounds get too cold)? BFG does make their DR in a 17" & they do have some tread pattern to them so you can use them in the rain (though obviously have to be careful). They will probably offer the most grip you can get from a street tire but their milage will be fairly low. Other common tires that aren't too pricy & seem to work well are the Kumho MX's (ran these on my car when it was 400+fwhp) & their pretty descent. Lots recommend the Falken 615's, they do have stiff sidewalls which isn't usually good for straight line grip (great in corners) but I have seen a bunch of guys put down great times & 60's in fwd's on these tires, so they do seem to work. I currently have the Kumho XS's, they offer more grip then the MX's, cost abit more & will wear a good amount quicker. I've never used them on a fwd vehicle but they are amazing with my current awd setup (ie don't slip at all), & on dirty roads they throw sand/rocks into the wheel wells like my Hoosier DR's use to, so you know their a soft compound. Another tires thats worth checking out would be the Dunlop Dizzera Star Specs (not sure on spelling).

i agree on the bfg drag radials they are awesome tires but i would not run them on the street since you will probably get about 4 month out of them. I suggest getting 2 spare wheels so u can mount 2 DR and swap them at the track.

All depends on how you drive as tire milage on a soft compound tire can vary greatly. The second set of rims is a great idea if your looking for good traction at the track, but if you want track only tires I wouldn't go with BFG's, as there are now better choices. For a DR I would recommend the Hoosier DR & if you can run a 15" rim or smaller, just go slicks.

Yeah 2 rims & sticky tyres devoted for the drags is the go.
But is your front struts cactus & causing your car front to lift too easy ?
Heavy front springs kill the rebound hold of front struts.
Heavy to push/pull struts with 2" lowered std springs are much better.
Also too low & soft at the rear will cause the front to lift & skate too easy.
LSD up front helps heaps as a final 20c worth.
Cheers !
