Widest wheel/tire combo while still being able to turn.

I want to get another pair of wheels to mount some drag radials on. I'm wondering what the widest wheel with a low offset that I can pull off is. Im willing to sacrifice some turning ability or get another set of fenders to roll. Im thinking a 15in or 16in. Would want a 15 since the tires are a lil cheaper. This is for a 97 GST. Thanks.

Also to add, Im looking at something like some weld draglites. But they list offset as backspacing. I dont know how to compare 5 inches of backspacing to say 38mm of offset.

For drag racing, all I know is that you WANT a tall sidewall that is soft. It will slightly widen your contact patch.

Good luck with the rest of your questions.

To figure the off set use 1inch = 25.4mm.

Most of the wheels have between 3 to 5 inches of backspacing. They cant be measuring from the same spot they get the mm measurments from.

Im thinking maybe a 15x8 wheel with 35-38mm offset and a 245 series wide DR.

I am also intested in what guys are running for wheel size for 15" drag radials. I am running a 1g if it matters as far as backspacing compared to a 2g.

On my 1G lowered I ran a 275-50-15 BFG drag radial (thats 26.1 tall X 11.3 section width)on a 15X9 weld drag lite with a 5.5 backspace and a 7/16 spacer. I could do a u-turn i a parking lot without the tires rubbing. The only thing missing was the trim that is on the lower rear part of the fender. It was close but it didnt rub.
