FYI: 225/40R18=Bad JUJU

So Went to the local track tonight (1/8 mile) AKA Barona Drag strip and found out the hard way that when you run large rims, don't drop your tire pressure to 22# at the track. I was just going to make a few passes and try to get some time behind the wheel on the drag strip when i spun the wheel free from the tire. I guess not backing off the throttle when shifting, no sidewall, and good traction really isn't that great!

I'm a bit embarrased at the times so i don't really want to post but i'll give you some clues... It only ran 10.8 in the eighth

Wow why where you running low pressure on 18's that is not a good idea.

What was the 0-60 and mph?

10.8 is good for a mid 16 sec pass.

Yeah, I'd say it's a good idea to not lower the pressure in your 18's from now on ! I run 225/40/18 also, so thanks for the heads up, although I doubt I'd ever do that :P!! Haha just raggin on ya man it's all good, as long as you learn from your mistakes.

Yeah, I did it to try to increase my ability to launch a lil but the track just wasn't capable of handling the shock on the tires with the stock suspension. I saw some pics that the track photographer took and it was obvious that i was unloading a ton of weight off the front end due to the stock suspension(rear end squat).

I was able to get a 2.48 60' out of it, while the tire pressure was right around 23 psi. That equated to a 10.83@66.161mph. My best mph was 66.7 in the eighth. I know that without any engine work that the fwd 420a are capable of way faster, but with everything stock i just couldn't do it. I have in my mind of doin a short throw shifter, stage 1 or 2 clutch and a set of steelies with some nitto 555r's or some type of drag radial for the track. I also know that with some suspension work (atleast in the rear) i could get this thing to launch a lot better than what i did tonight.

Also, I believe that i didn't spin the rim at the launch, I did a no lift shift (still using the clutch, of course) going into third and i think thats what did it when i let go of the clutch pretty harshly.

I am also a racer at heart and know parts can be hurt, so being though this is my daily driver i don't plan on getting too carried away with this as of yet. I would just like to see a solid or low (if not better) 15 equivelant time for the eighth (### we don't have 1/4's out here within safe driving distance) on the 100% stock engine. That is also including intake and exhaust piping.

I did however forget to do 1 thing i normally do at the track during racing, which is pull out the air filter to reduce the vacuum caused by the restriction (but with the stock air box i guess that it probably wouldn't make that much of a difference.

Your car is front drive 420a non turbo non awd. IT will never squat like an awd, and if by some chance it does its bad for you cause Now you will spin the front wheels.

You need to stiffen the rear soften the front for drag racing the front drive. You do not want weight transfer to the rear to happen.

Silver Bullit,
If you would have read all of my previous post you would have seen that I already know that i need some suspension work.

This was just done to get a baseline. And btw there was an awd dedicated race car there and i was definately squating harder than him.
