just wondering what you guys do.. run slicks with or without inner tubes???

well,,, people are saying that the inner tube can give you less traction on a slick versus the same tire with no inner tube. Reason being that the inner tube applies the majority of its pressure to the center of the tread area because it bubbles up in a ring not as a flat surface under the tire, thus decreasing your contact patch or atleast changing contact patch pressure.

plus tubes are 65 bucks each and that is just not cool.

any thoughts or comments now....

Avoid tubes if you can.

I've seen more tire shake problems with tubes than without tubes. I also had a tube get bunched up last season at a race in Columbus. I was letting off before half-track every pass because the car was bouncing around so hard and pulling. The tube got bunched up during a pass when it shook the tires, then it took 3 more passes before the tube "un-stuck" and the tire went back to normal. Until then, the car was literally undrivable above 100mph. I let off as soon as I had the wheel turned 90deg and I ran out of lane. It apparently had a TON of drag with the tube bunched up. It was eliminations though and I still had the field covered when letting off at half-track and coasting to mid-low 10's at 90mph. After that, I'm never running tubes again.

The only other thing they are good for is to help keep the tire inflated longer. But it does not matter as you will be changing tires pressures each time you go to the track anyway. Or at least I do or would. All it takes is a pump and pump them things back up. But with a tube they still will go flat in time. With weight on them(not a good idea) ours only go about two weeks before I need to add air to all four. We were stuck like this while the car was at the body shop. I stopped by twice a week just to make sure. On the shelf since then, they can hold nearly a month before needing more air.

I am running Hoosier QTP 26x9.5x16 WITHOUT tubes; no problems here. I made sure that the installer put a crapload of black tar goo on the rim/tire bead surface. I haven't had any pressure leakage issues in 1 year.

I also have had the pressures as low as 7-9psi without problems.

Gotta bring this back, i got some slicks used and two dont hold air (slow leak) is therr a way to patch this? Or do i have to toss it out?

Is not going to hold long. Its the nature of slicks. There's a few things you can do to slow it down and that's using 2 layers of dish soap on the entire inner tire and bead sealer or again dish soap on the bead when mounting. I've seen slicks deflate in less then a week.

These came mounted when i bought them. These were cory bowers slicks used for the stock 7bolt record. He said it has maybe 10 passes of them

I had them stacked on top of each other and the bottom one deflated, re filled and sat then up individually and they leak. Other top two are still solid.

Ive heard patch plug + burn out would weld it up good LOL but I'm not even sure it's a puncture, it could be i moved the bead? I guess I'll fill them up to 25psi each and spray em down with soapy water and see whats goin on

Ya check them. If its a hole, then the slicks no good. But usually they lose air just sitting because they have a very thin inner liner. As suggest run a thin layer of dish soap inside. Plus a light coat of bead sealer around the bead to help that area.

Ive ran tubed and no tubes now. I drop as low as 6psi with no issues without the tubes.
