New NHRA rule

For anybody that competes on a NHRA track, or a track that follows the NHRA rules, here is a head up as to whats new.
The NHRA 2006 Rule book now requires Fire Jackets for drivers of NON-OEM Blower, NON-OEM turbo, and NOS powered cars.

Under protective clothing.

"10.00 and SLOWER; all E.T. non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars with an OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory"

Next it goes on to say 10.00 and slower cars without full OEM or .024 firewall: a 3.2A/5 jacket AND 3.3/1 gloves Mandatory.

other NOS, Turbo and Blower clothing requirements;

closed bodied cars 9.99 and faster with OEM or .024 steel firewall - 3.2A/5 jacket and panets, as well as 3.3/1 gloves

9.99 and faster closed bodied cars without OEM or .024 steel firewall - 3.2A/15 jacket and pants, gloves and shoes 3.3/5

So ANY car with a non OEM power adder will require a fire jacket to race this year - even the 14.00 cars!

Just thought i'd give a heads up, if any of the tracks decide to push these.
 
I'm sure the local tracks here will. I run 16's and they were complaining about everything in my car (FIA rollcage and seat setup). That's why I don't drag race anymore. I'll stick to rally, autox, and road course track days. Places where they actually have a clue on what's important and what's not.
 
The reason they don't want a laptop in the passenger compartment is because during a crash it becomes a 10lb projectile.

Yep. That's actually not a bad idea. When I would take passes with a logger, I would always tie it down. Just in case...
 
is the mitsu 16g considered non-oem? i'm not sure if oem just means the particular model came with it...thanks
 
As far as OE turbo, do you think that the guy in tech could tell a 14B from a 50trim? They will most likely have an idea that some DSM's came turbo from the factory, but they wont be abel to tell if it is OEM or not. ALong with this most nights that people race are test and tune and they arent very strict about tech. They will most likely see that you car will only run mid 14's (or what ever it may run) and tech it based on that. Unless you are in an actual event they tend to be a bit more lax on test and tune.

Well, the 16G was OE on something (I believe it was a Fuso work truck or something of that nature), but NHRA is referring to what was original equipment on your paticular car. Unless you're dragging your Fuso, a 16G will fall under the aftermarket (non-OE) catagory. :dsm:

Obviously, you're not from the NorthWest Ohio area :) All the tracks around here sticklers for the letter of all the official rules, then they add their own, even more strict rules, just to mess with you!

Am I supposed to read this as "Cars equipped with a turbo that isn't an oem unit" or as "cars which are not equipped with a turbo charger as oem equipment".

If it's the second then any turbo car would be exempt, but the nt guys with turbo's wouldn't be. I'm guessing though that they mean the first. No matter I've got the fire suit and my 18g looks identical to a 14b anyways.

This is true, National Trail Raceway near me has been like that, though inconsistent about regulation enforcement. Last time I was there they were randomly looking through cars in the staging lanes double checking for violations.

I was thinking it would be the later, but I could be wrong sac raceway is pretty damn lax when it comes to their test and tune days. One of the techs asked me where my nitrous bottle was and pointed to my egt probe, I told him that's what it was for and he kinda just walked away and probably felt pretty dumb. Haven't ever been questioned about anything since(knock on wood).
