Well, got the car to the track again last night. Finally. First time out with the new TRE tranny and 2900. First two runs, w/ lousy :( burnouts on my new slick setup, were'nt that good. 8.6's at 87. SPINNING 1st, 2nd, AND part of 3rd. 22psi boost. 10psi tire pressure. 5500 rpm studder. Damnit. 3rd run, had there been one I think would have been awesome. Did an epic burnout, boost cranked to about 24-25psi, stage at the line, 5500 studder, light goes green, dump, SNAP. Wtf!? Great pedal pressure. All gears are there. Whew, I'm thinking. Car's purring like a kitten. But I'm just revving and not moving. So we push her back, jack her up and this is what we found.....

Ouch. When I had my old 1g N/T. I did the turbo conversion with a Big16G and many bolt ons. I went through half shaft's every month. Mine always twisted and snaped like yours. But when mine did it, it was in the splines.

Got to love FWD.

how hard is it to get the broken piece out? doesnt look fun to me :p

So, the traction issues have been moved from the contact patch to the inter-molecular grip of the driveshaft's steel?

So it would seem :) That or I need to start slipping the clutch until I fork out the $$$ for some driveshaftshop.com axles.

It was an OEM 2g turbo axle from Raxles.com.

Getting the old piece out was'nt "easy" but it was'nt too bad either. Just had to bang the hell out of it from the front. Now, putting the new one in (which I just finished doing after 2 hours!!!) was a bitc*. Seems that not only the axle spline was damaged, but also where it slides through to the wheel. The grooves were actually bent! So, back to banging again. Eventually I got it through enough w/ my rubber mallet to put the nut on and then tightened the nut to pull it the rest of the way through. Not a whole lotta fun.

Worth it, when it comes to E.T.'s and spanking AWD's on the launch :D

I dont care if youve got slicks I dont think you can cut solid high 1.6 60's and "spank" AWD launches bro.

No offense, and not to be a dick, but you don't cut 1.6 60's in your awd either (1.74 based on your slip). Fwd's have hit 1.6s(and 1.5, and 1.4 even).......not every car is the same (some awd's are doing 1.3 and faster), but the 60's are on par with what your doing with your awd.

I think Fidanza makes heavy duty axles for dsm's now. Might want to look into that instead of wringing your axles out like a dishrag. OMG

The Raxles axles are NOT OEM. The OEM axles are a lot stronger than the Raxles pieces. I ran OEM axles all the way through last year, with normal 60' times in the high 1.5's. Put OEM axles in there, they will have green housings. I never broke an OEM axle until the 26" slicks, and I didn't break many with this size tire either (now I'm on 28's). I broke a couple replacement axles just on 22's I think. This was when I was in the 1.8's for 60' times I think.

Get some OEM ones in there and they will last a lot longer.

Exactly my point, I said he would have to cut high 1.6's to "spank" an awd out of the hole, as most decent awd launches are low 1.7 or high 1.6's...
I emphasised the word spank because if you take someone outta the hole by .05 seconds its not really SPANKING them.
That 60' was just for that run I had a best of I think 1.72, I'd have to check though, its not really important though.

edit... dont compare apples to oranges as well, dont compare a 13 second awd car to an 11 second fwd, of course it will have more balls outta the hole.

I know man, I didn't mean any offense. I agree that he's not "spanking" awd's, but is definatley keeping up with them. In any case I can't get out of the hole for anything, so I have no room to say much.

Check the video section, 11 second GST, LSD and slicks=1.7 60ft

Another chick on here with her GST got a 1.6 60ft w/slicks on her 1G.

B16G record 1G GST

P.S. Im not your bro OMG

The FWD CRX ALL-Motor car at our shop goes 10.74 and does 1.53 60ft's on 24.5" slicks, so get real guys. FWD can pull the same 60fts we can on slicks.

Thats a nice 60' forsure, but you cant really fairly compare a slower awd dsm, to a 10 second fwd Honda on slicks, of course a car that weighs 1500 lbs on slicks will move quicker than an AWD pig outta the hole. :D

On a side not 10.74 All Motor is really freakin moving, whats it trap?

On dsmtimes.org in the fwd section, there is an eclipse that runs 1.481, a talon that runs 1.503, and two lasers that run 1.494 and 1.529. Fwd can definatley take off, it just takes more work to set them up, once you do they have the weight advantage and the drivetrain loss advantage, and no longer have a traction problem...by the way, nice job on that crx, that thing is moving! :thumb:
