Ok I'm running a fairly modded 2000 Cougar and I have always wondered if I could take a stock GSX or GS-T. My best time at the track was a 15.3 with alot of wheel spin off the line. I just read a post of a member that ran a 15.8 with mods on his GS-T. I'm not on here to start a flame war I was just wondering.

Thanks

Mike

stock GS-T, maybe...depends on the driver

stock GSX...probably not going to win

modded either one...you are going to lose

You best chance is going to be with a stock GS-T. My best time stock was 15.4.

my best was a 15.6....but that was my first run ever, and dam it was soo humid out.

I bought my bone stock gsx w/ 119,xxx miles on it and then i changed the oil and took it to the track. On my second run i ran a 15.207. The two runs i made that day are the only two times i've ever raced in my life. So if the car can get my inexperienced newb ass down the track that fast then i feel its a damn good car :D :dsm:

rubbersidedown: Agreed, I never desputed that either the GS-T or the GSX were bad cars I just wondered about my chances in a race against either in STOCK form. I think it would be a drivers race honestly. But as far as the GSX stock I think I would get dusted if they know how to launch an AWD Turbo car. I've raced two WRX's and beat both because of bad drivers. A win's a win;)

If you get some traction on that cougar you will dust both the stock GSX and the fairly modded GS-T. I'm assuming your mods give you enough torque to spin all the way through first and part of second, and if that's the case, then your 15.x is really a low 14.x ~ high 13.x

Get a good set of tires (not slicks, you'll just bog down) and I mean some FAT, STICKY like mickey thomson ET-drags and launch it against a GSX.

I've driven both, and trust me, torque is torque, period. If you get good traction you'll cut your 60ft times by as much as 1 second and the added launching acceleration will give you an even better trap speed which will make it for the AWD to catch up at the far-end. Remember, AWD's are all about launch, if you can hang with an AWD during launch, you already won the race, since AWD's will always run slower in the top-end due to their higher number of reciprocating parts and numerous drivetrain components.

Ohh, and a little 65-shot, wouldn't hurt anyone, just in case that AWD starts to "walk" on you. ;-P

Correct me if Im wrong here but I didnt see him list his mods for his cougar anywhere so assuming he should be running low 14s to high 13s is a bad thing to do. Getting into the low 14s or high 13s out of that car requires the use of some type of f/i or nitrous. Just something Ive gathered from alot of reading.. once again correct me if Im wrong.

LOL...I would love to see a n/a modded cougar run a mid 14....haahahaha let alone a low 14 or 13

kepp dreaming

LOL hey man lets not start doggin on rides like we are in 6th grade here.

My Cougar is a 14 second car I just can't drive very well. Probably not low 14 sec but 14's never the less.

And there are people on our site that have N/A Cougars running 13's but they have 3.0 Hybrid cars

Hot damn! What did you take out to drop almost 400 pounds!!!!

Have you been to the track with all those mods?
What was your MPH?
What was your 60'?

This 3.0 hybrid car. What is the motor from? What does the Cougar come with? What is involved in the swap? A lot?

I have seen a couple Cougars at the track by me run some mid-high 14s. They were pretty worked up. Drive it like you stole it and it should run some 14s for you.

Passenger seat, rear seats, spare jack any loose BS hanging around the car Toyo TS-1's and stock rims weighed in at 33lbs and I pulled the hood LOL I can't afford a Carbon fiber one right now so I wanted to see ya know.
3.0 Hybrid = Stock V6 2.5 L duratec mixed with a 3.0l motor from a Taurus I believe.

Here is my motor hehe:p

Also Street Flight just came out with a turbo for the Cougar and it dyno'd at 267 WHP at 5psi tuned to 10-12 predicted to easily dyno at 300+.
If I had $$$ and stage 3 clutch, LSD and a flywheel I would be at low 14 easily. Give me time N/A will rise up LOL I have not been able to race yet with everything on my car now.

No. the stock Cougar can not come with a SC. The stock motor could probably handle 10-12 psi for awhile. As far as the trans. NO everything has to be upgraded at the same time. Stock clutch diff. all needs to be upgraded if you have a Turbo on a Cougar. Paxton does make a SC but the Contour clubs and the Cougar people have had close to 100% failer rate. Something with the splines I believe.

Thanks
Mike

hey Gyger just so you know.. I meant no offense to your car or cougars in general.. I just base this statement

"Getting into the low 14s or high 13s out of that car requires the use of some type of f/i or nitrous."

off of my experience with my old Celica.. figure 170whp and 2500lbs and I was in the low 14s.. figure n/a wise its alot of power/weight ratio for track times as well as driving. So I figured your power/weight ratio wasnt quite there yet with the available mods for a Cougar..

Lets see, the cougar weighs 3013/3200 and has 170hp

With your mods

"MSDS Ceramic Headers and Y-pipe
Flowmaster muffler with dual exhaust
75mm MAF custom calibrated by Pro-flow MAF tech
SVT Upper Intake double honed and extruded
SVT Lower Intake with 19lb inj. also double honed and extruded
SVT 3.0l Throttle body
ASP Underdrive pulley 1lb
Weapon-R intake tube
Apex Dual funnel power intake (just a filter)
Venom 400 Control Module
Roush Suspension
Derale front mount oil cooler
Urethane Engine mount inserts
Toyo TS-1 tires
Taylor wires
bosch platnium4 plugs
weight reduction from 3100+ to 2767"

Do you really thing that is adding up to close to 200 whp??

considering you are starting off with about 130@ the wheels

If so, then maybe high 14's is possible.

I would rather deal with a car that shows some good results without dishing lots and lots of money.

I personallly like the look of the cougars eventhough the just copyed the look of eclipses.
