Hey guys, well I Went to the track yesterday for the first time.

My car is a 95 FWD big 16g talon. Have the supporting mods (255lph fuel pump, 550CC Injectors, SAFC, 3" Turboback, IC Piping, act 2100, 8lb flywheel, hks bov, intake, ported o2 housing and manifold, mbc.

I went to the track expecting mid 13's yesterday. My best time was a 14.4!! I don't know what the problem is. I admit, i didn't have good launches, my traction blows, and i wheel hopped 2 out of my 4 runs. Even with bogging down a launch, i should be able to get better times than this, with my setup, right?

My trap speeds weren't too bad. I ended my runs with an average of 102mph.

Some problems ive noticed is I have boost creep, it goes from about 16psi (where i try to set it) up to 20 psi. I'm not sure exactly what boost spike is, but this might be anoher name for creep?

Also, I know there is a gasket leak from the manifold to the turbo (don't know if its a big leak, though.) Maybe this is slowing me down?

It just doesn't make sense. I put all this money in, and get smoked by some weak cars.

I am running on the stock sidemount, it is not cleaned nor vented, i don't know if that will make any difference. I know a FMIC will help, but that is a lot of money. Any help you guys could give me would help A LOT! Thanks.
Mike

Makeing a FWD go down the 1/4 fast on Street tires is a challenge and a half.

Most people in my area pushing 300+whp always run 14+ on street tires.

I put down 321whp on pump gas trapped in at 110mph and still ran 14.0-14.2's. 2.3 60's.

It's just hard to do. All and not not supprising, especially with a turbo the size of a 16G.

Slap on some slicks and you should do better, or just make more HP and make up the time in the last 1/2 of the track Like I did.

uhh there was a guy on here in a 90 fwd laser with a 14b, afc, downpipe and a mbc a fuel pump running 17 psi he ran a 13.5 on street tires. Its a matter of driving. Spikes are creep are pretty much the same thing but since you have a MBC there wont be much you cant do about it, thats why i like my apexi avcr i never get creep. Also any kind of boost leak could be slowing you down more than u would ever think. The turbo takes longer to spool also it loses boost faster on the way to the redline. And probably whats killin you the most is your sidemount. A stock sidemount running 15+ psi on a big 16 is nuts in my opinion. Its probably suffering from severe heatsoak and not to mention it probably has a boost leak if its old.
Check the manifol, fix the spike, and tighten all your piping and clean your ic. Also give your car time to cool down after runs because of that tiny intercooler. You should be well into the 13's my friend was runnin a 14.5 in a fwd 95 tsi with only a exhaust, downpipe, mbc and bov

Hey dont take it so hard...my first time at the track with my b16g was 15.6@100mph. But I had a blown front o2 sensor and bad plugs. Youll need great driving and great tires to get out of the 14s past that youll need lsd and slicks. As your car sits, if its tuned right, it is easily a mid-low 13sec easily. You know your problem so good luck :thumb:

People always say you need good tires...well to me slicks dont seem like good tires. I have a 1.25 " drop and kyb adjustibles for my suspension and my tires are 245-45 z rated visas but the tread style is pretty shitty....since slicks=no tread ....wouldnt shitty tires kinda be better? i dunno i heard with slicks you break axles and shit to i dunno just askin

no tread on a slick is totally different than no tread on a street tire, as a street tire wears it gets harder.

first time at the track only had k&n : 14.8 @ 98.0

traction is key.

tread is for evacuating rain and such as well as to lengthen the life of the tire. slicks at the same size as your 245 tires have alot more contact patch and are MUCH softer. Plus they have a tall side wall to help grab when launched.

Oh I was very dissapointed with my 15.6@100mph ... especially since I ran a 14.9@95mph BONE stock on 205 all seasons.
Andrew

hey im having the same problems as you except i have a GSX! there is no excuse for wheelspin or anything like that my car has a ton of mods and is just slow for some reason. did you ever find out what was wrong?

Post the full Timeslip and we can tell you more about what went wrong. 102mph for a big 16g is weak IMO. I've trapped 104 on 93 octane with my 14b. FWD takes a lot of practice, I'm now up to a best of 13.179 @ 105 with 205 street tires.

Back from the dead....my 100mph trap would be a product a bad 02 sensor, low boost 11-12psi, and everyone should know that bad o2s cause a default mode deleting fuel.... So under the circumstances I think I trapped pretty damn high....

alot of you guys need to relax and spend more time tunning and driving insted of asking each other whats wrong. It helps to learn your car fellas! keep practicing and it will come to you.

exactly.. a lot of you just have my syndrome.. the car is faster than the driver.. my car has 11 second power and a 12 second driver.. just need more practice driving... i'm not ashamed to admit i'm a terrible driver

just because your car is a 11sec and you drive at a 12sec pace doesnt mean you suck at driving...that would mean everytime you throw a part on your car and run faster you suck. You dont, like you said you need to get used to it :thumb:

Hey, thanks for reviving this post. Here's info from 2 of my slips, I don't know where the 14.4 slip is for the time being, but here's these:

R/T ... .445
60' ... 2.619
330 ... 6.571
1/8 ... 9.807
MPH ... 75.78
1000 .. 12.552
1/4 ... 14.804
MPH ... 100.72

Slip 2:

R/T ... .271
60' ... 2.558
330 ... 7.048
1/8 ... 10.335
MPH ... 73.71
1000 .. 13.139
1/4 ... 15.437
MPH ... 98.84

Those were the weaker of my 4 runs. Any idea's where the problem might lie throw in some feedback. I figured even with a shit launch, a big 16g should pull better than this. I am still on the stock sidemount, so I know that is not helpin at all. I also posted a video of my car pulling in 2nd and 3rd on another thread.. check that out.. 3rd lags like a bastard.

heatsoak is your enemy, you NEED to get rid of the sidemount a.s.a.p. that is what is holding you back more than anything. your launches could deffinately use some work as seen by your 2.6 and 2.5 60'. however you can tell the sidemount is holding you back. its the same thign with my car i went to the track(t-25) and ran a 16.2@97mph, please laugh al you want I need to get used to fwd again. once I got the big 28 on I could get my mph over 90 going down the 1/4, however on the way home i could hold of my friends 13.2 z28. The problem was my sidemoutn was heatsoaking so badly that my timing was being pulled to where I might as well be n/t. turn down the boost a few pounds and you will still run the same times because the sidemout will take longer to heatsoak.

This makes me wonder how these SRT 4's run 13's stock and they're fwd? Is it the LSD's on them that help or what?

It is such a pain in the ass. I'm only running 13.8s @ 112-however that's at 292 whp boosting only 10 psi. For us it's going to be the first 330' that is the pain for us, after that it's smooth sailing. Slicks or actual drag radials will help out a great deal-that's actually my next step. That, and perhaps putting in race gas, and turning the boost to 25 on my 56 trim.

Decent tires from the factory, electronicly variable boost at higher pSI than us, bigger engine, LIMITED SLIP! Do you need any more reasons. The good news is you too can obtain all of these items and the boost gods favor will shine down upon you!
