I've been pondering on a HONDishi frankenstein swap.

I've got an AWD 4g63T motor (you know the spex), and I have a CRX HF (1967lbs)

I know anything is possible if you have money. But what's the fun in having a shop do the work for you. I know the basics, I've done a Cyclone swap in a 1g GSX (where this motor came from) and I've fundoodled with hondas for a few years now. I love DSM's peformance but I also love CRX's handling. How about having both. (maybe sacrifice some handling for more power) Heavy 4g63T engine on a light CRX. I mean, why go with an big heavy H22 motor when you can put a 4g63 in the thing.I know it's been done. I have been trying to look for info on this swap with no luck. Has anyone know a site where I can get some info on this?

So far here's what I have:

1G 4g63 Motor
1G intake mani w/ TB and sensors
fuel rail/ injectors
14B turbo w/ mani

Coil, etc.
AWD trans.. prolly FWD trans will work better
CRX shell.. Still running but it's an HF (62HP) great on gas

I'll need: (feel free to add any suggestions here)

Engine Harness (I know where to get one)
Halfshafts Prolly gonna be custom to fit Honda hubs
FWD Tranny
shift cables, brackets
Mounting kit. (machine shop?)

I think that would be a killer machine. You could use the AWD tranny w/a welded center diff. and a VCE and no T-case. That way you could eventualy make it AWD. Sounds like the only thing left is to start pullin stuff out of the CRX and start meassuring and fabing stuff.

Kais3rboy,
Sounds like a very interesting project. If you have the money and skills to put it together more power to you. For AWD however you'll need a custom rear half of the CRX. For the rear half of the CRX I'd research pro CRX draggers. I've seen back-half kits for Civics and CRXs that'll probably save you alot of time. I don't know who makes it and how much however. You'll need a custom floor to clear the rear diff and etc. Fuel cell would help also.

hey,
a little searching through my mags turned up chassis engineering makes import sub frames. www.chassisengineering.com They sell cages and lots of other full race stuff. Good luck with the project. Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the reply, So far I've been looking for places that can fab me a mount kit. I'm pretty sure if the engine is in the car it'll be easier for the other stuff. I can do the wiring with no problems I have a wire harness from a GSX, and an ECU, but the fabbing of parts will have to be done by someone else.

You might try calling a place like raxles.com and asking them about the custom driveshafts.

".... the fabbing of parts will have to be done by someone else." OMG This sounds like its going to get expensive! Getting motor mounts, custom axles, and driveshaft made by someone else I understand. Are you going to be able to do the cage and cutom rear half or are you going to have someone else do it? These are just questions I'm curious about. In no way am I trying to diss you or question your skills, but those will cost lots of money to have someone else do and eat a hole in your budget very quickly. I myself have very little experience mechanicaly and am very impressed that you're willing to take on such an extensive project, which I'm sure we all would agree would be a kick ass car once completed. :D There's my two pennies. Once again good luck on your project. :thumb:

custom mounts will be someone else... someone in my club I mean. We get discounts with shops but this is one project that no one wants to touch. Rear half is waaay in the future I'm just worried in getting this motor physically in the car for now, and worry about the rest later. I'm more familiar with wiring, I'm not much of a mech tech.

If you're looking to do AWD, I recall someone in Canada working a CRV AWD drivetrain into a CRX. Since both platforms are based on the civic, they didn't have that many problems. I believe they also stuffed a turbocharged B20 from the same CRV into the CRX as well. Might be worth looking into. Should be easier to have a CRV drivetrain, and transmission, then just have to worry about beefing up the tranny to handle the torque, fabbing motor mounts, and fabbing a flywheel to bolt to the honda tranny (if you really want the 4G63). This project is going to consume gobs of time and money, hopefully this would make it easier.

Good luck
Matt.

unorthodox has there crx that is rwd with a 4g63 in it.

Ahhhh, your in my territory now:) I've backhalved/swapped a few cars LOL!! Just make a chassis and drop the body on.......
The CRX will be a lot easier than you think bro, if you take your time and think before you start just CUTTING the sh*t out of it. Measure thrice and cut once. Firewalls can be moved, supports added, etc. (but without fab-ability it can get spendy quick).
Anyway, just shell the crx (strip it, all of it). Start with nothing and work from there, don't make it complex because it really isn't (unless you want to add hydraulics, then you'll be doing some chassis magic).
