Okay A buddy of mine told me something that has had me thinking. He ask me about how my engine build was going and I told him that it was coming slow but I am getting there. I have basically figured out everything up to this point. But he mention something to me about using the Evo 8 timing belt over the classic blue kelar belt we all see on every high powered build. What is your thinking, do he know something I don't. Just want to see what everybody take is. Oh by the way the reason he suggest the evo8 belt is it is supposed to be the junk and the blue belt leads to failed components.;)

DSM, evo8 and evo9 timing belts are interchangeable. OEM part number is:MD326059

The blue belt, normally a gates, is supposed to be stronger, which is probably is due to the materials used. I have always ran OEM timing belt with all my 4g63 and never had a problem, cant really justify spending an average of 35 extra bucks for a blue timing belt.

Now Greddy also has a timing belt thats blue, I do not know anything about that belt nor do I know anyone that has used one.

Gates also has an OEM style bent, different from their race blue ones, and I think it comes in a kit.

I would just stick with the OEM belt, proven to work and an average of 75 buck and oem, cant beat that. But, I have never built a 500+HP engine, better yet pushed one of my engines that far.

Well your opinion is well worth considering besides you do have a few green blocks under your name and this speak loud and clear. Thanks for the input.:thumb:

Those green blocks don't really mean that much, yea people who have them usually post good info, but I have one more block than JAM, and they will know building 4g63s better than I ever will. I guess I just get rewarded for not being an idiot or posting nonsense. (not insulting the system mods or chris, because currently this is the best method)

Hell, the info you post about lifters and cam gears, videos to show us and data to back it up, I am sure you are just as knowledge as I am if not more.

No problem for the input, I am sure others will agree, OEM is preached a lot here.

I run nothing but standard gates belts on every thing that i work on. It doesn't matter how much power you are making, the belt doesn't transfer power, so there is no more tension on the belt when making stock power or 500 horsepower.

Oem on my builds, cheap insurance had my oem on my most recent one, when i first started i used your auto store ones still no problems with them just replace the timing components when in doubt.

Run the Evo IX timing belt, it is kevlar reinforced and cheaper than the kevlar aftermarket belts.

I always heard the greddy belt was made by gates and pretty much the same as the blue gates belt but I have never seen any proof or had the two of them next to each other to compare. As far as I know the only two true kevlar belts are the HKS and Power Enterprise. I went with a Power Enterprise belt on my built motor since much stiffer valve springs and more aggressive cams are being used. Stock belts do seem pretty proven to work fine as well though.

I always used an OEM belt and recently switched to a Gates blue belt when I put my built head on. No difference to me...just want a belt that works. I would just as easily switch to an OEM. I just had the Gates laying around.

For what it's worth, my buddy has an EVO8 that dyno'd 560WHP on a FP Green and a completely stock engine besides 272 cams, and ran 10.50's at the shootout. The motor had 56K on it and didn't have a T-belt failure.

Now this is exactly what I was told. He said that a lot of people don't know this and I was one of those individuals. EVO9 OEM with kevlar reinforcement. :sneaky: Thanks fellas for all the input this is the type of feedback that help making decisions easy:thumb:

Kels I'm surprised you did not go with the power enterprise Kevlar timing belt. I have both there timing belt and their mls head gasket that you recommended.:thumb:
