Hello,

i would like to find out if anyone has any direct experience with using different bearings together to get the kind of clearances you aim for.

For example, using a standard bearing with a race bearing to get a clearance somewhere in between. Fine tuning for clearance.

Thank you

Best regards!

keep your bearings for your set up, for main and rods go with the specs for either one, i guess im unclear about clearances your asking. go for your application being rods, and the main bearing clearances.

I was talking about using thicker (standard) bearings on top and then using thinner (race) bearings on the caps. In order to get a clearance somewhere in between standard and race, mix and mathching them.

I know it has been done like this on v8's and such just not sure if anyone has done this on a DSM?

Well on my build, OEM bearings were used to achieve the same clearances on all journals. Some needed thicker while others needed thinner bearings.

So what did you do for fine tuning? Polishing them?

If you want a little extra clearance you can usually order bearings that are .001 thinner.

I didn't do anything, the builder took about a months time of ordering to get the exact ones he was looking for so every journal had the same clearance.

When i built my engne, i kept all mine within specs, good thread though, havent built a v8 yet but going one day when i acquire my uncles Super Bee.
