I found this browsing e-bay. I Haven't seen this long shaft before. I tried to look for one, but not really knowing what the proper name for it was i had no luck. The guy selling it claims that some of the big name shops use them in their racecars. I'm wondering if this is true of false.

What are the benefits of using the longer shaft over the stub(if any)? Also, why have i never seen or heard of this being used before? I mean if it is another option and possibly better, why don't i ever see it offered?

I ran across that too and was kind of curious about it. I've never heard of anyone using it?
I wont be needing that setup anytime soon though

""Under high rpm and high oil pressure the two oil pump gears try to push apart from each other, without the support of the full shaft the oil pump is destroyed.""

Well if his statement about the oil pumps having a higher failure rate at higher rpms because of increased oil pressure trying to push the gears apart is true. Why don't i see more people using using these shafts? I would think that if this was a issue people would use this "long Shaft" just as a precautionary step in prevention something that could possibly be catastrophic.

I mean ive heard of them cutting the weights off the rear shaft for high rpm applications.
Does this use just the long shaft in the rear shaft area to simulate that effect?
Is the stub shaft in the pic just for comparison?

$150 seems like a little much, considering my BSE kit costed like $30 with the stub shaft.

Your BSE with the stubby shaft didn't require custom turning.

From 92 on the oil pump gears were helical cut to reduce the noise levels. This generates axial thrust loads on the pump casing that the straight cut gears didn't in addition to the radial load. This can cause the shorter shaft to wobble if the clearances become excessive and the longer shaft stops that.

^^Listen to steve, he has been around the shaft a long time and knows it inside and out.

:D

So if your oil pump has straight-cut gears the stub shaft will not wobble at higher RPMs, therefore the longer full balance shaft isn't necessary?

It's not clear that the longer full balance shaft is ever necessary. It won't hurt in either case.

I've talked about this modification in the past. It is something I did on both the 2.3 and the 2.4 motors. Just take your rear shaft out, cut the end weight off and have your local friendly machinest put it in a lath and cut it down.

I've seen oil pump housings with abnormal wear on them where the shaft goes through and attaches to the timming belt gear.
