What do you guys think of this for a build idea?

Ok ive ben thinking of a new project. Im thinking of a glant vr4. It would have a full built 4gcs. For the people that dont know what it is its a 2.4l block I was thinking of wesico and somthing a setup from eagle rods with a metal headgasket with arp everything. for the head i was thinking 272s with 1mm over sized valuves and springs. maybe a slight port job. for the trubo i was wondering if a 35r with a twin scroll setup has ben done on a dsm and how it works out. I was also wondering what you guys think of that with the 2.4l as far a spool up time and all. I was also wondering how high i could shift the 2.4l what would be the max safest rpm without doing damage. thanks for the input

Oversized valves are not needed. Especially with "slight" port work. I cant stand the idea of a 2.4l. I would personally keep it 2.0. If you want torque, go buy a Mustang. And there are tons of options out there for turbos, but a twin scroll 35r wouldnt be anything THAT unique. There are too many variables in your build, but I do like the idea of it being a galant.

the reason why i wanted a 2.4 motor is so the turbo would spool up faster at a sooner rpm not so much for torque so over sized valuves would be over kill huh? as far as the twin scroll again for spool up. i havent seen to many twin scroll 35rs on dsm. i want to have one wicked street car with alot of ass i would like to make it a high 9 street car....

Guys running high 9's dont usually have 2.4's. They usually have high revving 2.0's with big laggy turbo's. Lag is overrated. It really is. Drag racing isnt done on a roll. Fast spool wont win drag races.

I'm building a 9 sec street car right now. I'll be using a 2.0. A dsm that can 60ft pretty good and have a good shifting transmission will go a long way. I went 10's on a little 30r with a 2.0, full weight on street tires, stock center diff, trapping 115mph in the 1/8th. Thats good for low low 10's. I had big traction issues in every gear. Good tuning will help spool, not an engine swap that will help spool a few hundred rpms quicker. You'll be shifting out at less then 7500rpms on a turbo that needs to be revved out.

Focus your money on a solid drivetrain, and weight reduction. A 2.0 with a decent turbo, WILL accomplish your goals.

Dont forget. Galants are heavier. A well built 2.0 is very reliable. Dont be afraid of lag. Last year I ran a t3 t67 p-trim that hits 30psi by 6000rpms. I smoke crotch rockets on a roll. And when boost hits, im banging thru gears like John Force and passin thru the traps at 135+. :thumb:

Im 100% with brokentsi on this one. The 2.0 is a perfect motor for turbos as all it wants to do is rev. Personally I will never mess with anything but a 2.0 anything else is a waist of time and money if you ask me. Keep things simple and you will eventually get to were you want to be as none of this happens over night.
Tuning as far as link or AEM a great shifting trany a solid drivetrain and a good driver that understands the car and motor gets you along way with a modest set up.

I love my 2.4. I have a 35r on it and it spools it like a big 16G on a 2.0 with minimul mods. I built mine for pump gas only and just street driving. If you want a drag engine stick to the 2.0.

Hmm, I almost guarantee my 2.4 with my SBR Stage VI head, crower 280 and holset hx50 will do better than 550hp and I'm sure I'll do 9's

I don't see what the deal is with all these people who degrade the 2.4L and bad mouth it so much. Even people with 2.3L Strokers do it and here isnt a whole lot of difference between the two aside from the piston/rod ratio.

Telling someone to go buy a "mustang" if they want torque is kind of silly... a 2.4L can make as much power, and do pretty well for itself down low without having to rev to 9k.
