I have been searching for decisive info on this swap and can't find the answers I need. What is required to install a 6 bolt 2.4 liter engine in a 1g Tsi? I know the head needs to swapped but what do I use for a timing belt? I have seen references to oil squirters but can't seem to find out what thay are or how to retrofit them. I believe the accessory brackets will need to be modified, that is not a problem. Can you retain the stock 2.4 pistons? What does the 2.0 head do to the compression ratio? Also, will the stock computer still function properly? I realize some sort of fuel controller would be ideal but I am wondering if I can get by with the factory stuff for now, I don't have the deepest pockets. Which fuel injectors should I use, are the stock ones adequate for now? Would the fuel pump rewire get me by? What about the 2.0 clutch and flywheel? Are they interchangeable? I'm not looking for an all out race car, just a reliable daily driver with some extra power. I figure that since I need a motor anyway this seemed like a worthwhile swap but I want to make sure I'm not getting in over my head. I realize it would be cheaper to just go with another 2.0 but what fun is that? I just don't want to spend thousands more if I don't have to. Sorry so long but I had a lot of specific question I can't seem to find answers to. Thanks for your help.

Ok, first of all, just so realize....people have gone 7's on 2 liter 4g63's, i found 11's to not be any challenge....so make sure your black warrants your goal....and thats to a) spool a massive turbo and b) break ####.

But what you need. You can either use a 2 liter block with a 2.4 liter crank from a 2.4 liter 6 bolt mitsu truck or van engine. you hafta find one from a block that has the correct bell housing pattern. Then you either use custom shorter rods or custom pistons with the wrist pins moved to creat a block with alot more stroke but a 2 liter bore. this is about 2.28 liters and everything will bolt on like stock, as long as you use stock injectors the stock computer can control it and the increased stroke is grat for spooling turbos. You might want to use a thincker head gasket (mitsu ralliart is 3x thickness) and then use adjustable cam gears to zero out.
Or you use the entire 2.4 liter block, you'll hafta drill holes for oil squirters with squirt the piston skirts and prevent detonation. I dont know if you need cam gears or not, i have no idea what rods an pistons you use.

either way you end up with something designed to handle 600 wheel horsepower so i hope you intend on making at least a decent percentage of thats, SOMETHING over 400 wheel for sure.

I'd like to just use the whole 2.4 short block. Where do you drill the oil squirter holes? Just want more power with stock reliability and driveability. :)

then this isn't the way to do it. the 2.4 liters rods and pistons won't cut it for boost, you'll need forged rods and pistons since no one makes cast 2.4 liter #### with 4g63 strength. That means a 600 hp block, long warm up periods, piston slap possibly and about 1100 dollars in parts...

A dsm with 15 psi, exhaust, a fuel pump and a intake setup with make an additional 60-75 hp and have another 60-75 ft/lbs's which isnt bad...It will be fast enoguh to beat any stang GT up until 98 fairly easy and be a good match for 98+ gt's and LT1's

Thank you, that was the info I was looking for. I really didn't want to crack into the short block right now, all of my summer cars are in storage or broken and this is my only ride right now. Can't afford to be without it that long. But, since we're on the subject of this swap I'd really like to do it in the future so if anyone has specific answers to these questions I, and I'm sure others, would be very interested to hear them. Anyone out there done this? Inquiring minds want to know :thumb:

so you want a 12 hu, there are people, a lot of them running 12s on the 2liter(and 7s) with the stock motor(minus cams I would quess) and fuel with a fuel controller, then drive the car fast and someone with this set up on 23psi race gas ran 12.02@114ish, thats 12s and only need to spend $1,200 to get there your buy 2.5" exaust for you car get a MBC(manual boost controller) turn it up to 15-16psi with hardwire fuel pump, AFPR(ajustable fuel pressure ragulator) and womp on most v-8s all day long, it would be great. No issues of reliable or not, and its at least quick for the little investment, then with the stock motor still you can run a 10 (stock motor 1991 Galant VR-4 with a 54trim garrett turbo) so with your car 300lbs lighter and a 50trim garrett($500) then a manifold($475) exaust, more fuel(injectors, pump) you would really smoke a lot of stuff. But I dont see the need for the 2.4 when all the power can be handled by the 2.0 but thats what I have to say. Good luck

That was the most muddled and confused post I have ever seen any idiot post. Congrats.

I left this in this forum hoping it would take a turn towards the technical instead of standard crap. I guess I was wrong.

Since no one has anything good to add, the thread is closed.
