Well... The Eclipse seems to be gettng tired. The car is a 1999 GST Stock 7bolt/t-25 148k. Only mods are Turbo back, MBC, Intake pipe, Hard upper with Greddy Type S.The car has began to smoke... I mean its is like a damn chimney. The color of the smoke has a Blue tint; meaning oil consumption. This occurs at warm idle, cold idle and blipping the throttle in neutral. I have not had anyone follow me yet, but would imaginge the smoke does not clear. This is a brief description of what has been checked so far:

Pulled the plugs: Some carbon buildup, but nothing major.

Pulled intake tube: Some oil inside not A LOT ( coming from VC VAC HOUSE)

Pulled upper Hard pipes: Some oil, nothing major

Pulled Lower intercooler pipe : Found some oil but nothing caked ( I have flushed the core out before)

Checked turbo for shaft play: Very VERY LITTLE Side to Side, No in and out. Wheel spins freely both ways. No chipping sound when spinning.. Smooth! Wheel looked perfect no chunks or chips.

Other things to note:

Car boost quickly and low (Like all t-25 should). Initial WOT goes to 13-14 settles on 12psi.

The VAC/Boost gauge always indicates 19-20 in of VAC at idle. 20-25 on decel. ( making me think the rings are ok).

Car has smooth idle.

Slight Valve train/ injector noise (sounds normal for nearly 150k)

Has small exhaust leak from Turbo to Down pipe (Megan Stainless).

Car was treated with SEAFOAM before completeing last oil change (Wonder if it caused some HAVOC on the Turbo SEALS or anything else. For that matter maybe even the PCV system)

Replaced the PCV valve about 4k ago... (did not use Mitsu. Part.... Was wondering if it could effect it )

Things that will be completed toady:

Compression Check.

Pull down Pipe to check for oil in the O2 Housing.

Will try to do a Leak Down Test.

Let me know what you guys think the next step is, and add anything I might need to check up on I may have forgotten.

:dsm:

I got nothing, post up the results of the compression and leak down tests and everyone can make a better call on what is going on.

The seals in your turbo could have went out. That happened to my stock turbo and i replaced it and it quit smoking. But im sure it could be something else too

With that many miles it seems the turbo has bit the dust. How is the shaft play. Does it still boost good. Did it just one day magically start smoking or progressively gotten worse.

^ The shaft play is almost non existent. Did you actually read my firs post? I have not been able to complete the compression test. I dont have anyone around to crank the car. LOL... Not to mention I am not sure what thread the head takes.

Quite a few folks have seen the PCV cause smoke screens, especially the cheapo ones. It's easy enough to change and fairly inexpensive.
Other things include valve stem seals and/or guides. You can check them by pulling the exhaust manifold to see if oil is spooging down the stems.
In the block the oil control rings can fail while the compression rings are intact. It will still smoke but the vacuum reading will be good. The leakdown test is the best bet as the compression only method may not show problems.
Turbo seals are independent of the shaft bushings/bearings. If the o-rings let go oil will push into the intake or exhaust turbines. Removing the intake and O2 housing will show if either is bad altho the exhaust side is more prone. You'll see oil coating the impeller if blown.
Good luck, hope you don't have to yank the motor altho it may be a good excuse for that 6 bolt monster motor... :thumb:
