2.4L oil clearances out of whack

I am doing a 2.4 L 6 bolt 4g64 build, I have arp main studs and the crank has been just polished, the crank was checked for taper and everything else. The bearings I am using are all ACL Race series tri metal bearings. The only resources I have available for oil clearance check is the plasti gauge method. I have tried switching out the bearings around NUMEROUS TIMES on the upper and lower section with no luck. The numbers are as follows on the caps:

4. .001
3. .001
2. .001
1. .015

The arp mains i used motor oil on the bottom and arp moly lube on top and two step torqued them going from inside out like I torque the head. They were all torqued to 60ft

Please help any input is appreciated
 
Well if those number are correct, you will need to dig a little deeper. Perhaps a friend or someone at a local machine shop could help.

What you need to find out, and post are the actual crankshaft journal diameters for all of the mains and rods, (might as well look at the rods now too). It would be helpful to get dimentions across the bearing surface, and 90 degrees (around) each journal. This will tell us what the journal diameter is, its taper, and out of roundness for each one.

Connecting rod journal diameters 1.771
Out of round limit 0.0006
Taper limit 0.0002
Connecting rod bearing oil clearence 0.0008 to 0.0020 service

Crankshaft main bearing journal diameter 2.243
out of round limit 0.0006
Taper limit 0.0002
Crankshaft main bearing oil clearence 0.0008 to 0.0020

Additionally install the main caps (without the main bearings) and torque them to specification. Then measure (with a bore gauge) or have someone at a machine shop measure the housing diameters. Get measured diameters for all main housings at two or three places (rotaoionally) around each main housing bore. You may want to do this for the rod housing daimeters also.

With this information we should be able to determine where the problem lies.
 
I just put mine together as well, But I used stock OEM Bolts instead of ARP's and Hyundai's spec for stock bolts were 36-38lbs on the Mains.. If I remember correctly this is how mine went
1. inbetween .0015 and .002
2. inbetween.0015 and .002
3. inbetween 0015 and .002
4. inbetween .0015 and .002
5. inbetween .0015 and .002

The rods were the same thing except # 1 cylinder was closer to .002

This is with a STD polished 6 bolt g4cs Crank.. I also used a plastigauge
 
Well I figured out what the deal was!


The plastic gauge that I bought was defective. I looked at it and it just looked weird compared to the other plastic gauges I used in the past, I had a hunch something was wrong. I went to a different store and bought a different plastic gauge and redid all my oil clearances and all of them came out perrfecttt! I just wanted to share with you guys that plastic gauges are Really not that realiable as most people at this forum will say.
