ok I've searched for my question but no one has my problem so here it goes.... I currently have a 95 gst and a extra 6-bolt block and head with 1st gen intake manifold on a stand in my garage.

I want to swap the engines but first I want to rebuild the 6-bolt. My plan is to send out the engine to a shop and have them rebuild it for me and then swap them myself. I read that some people use some 2nd gen parts like the head and pistons and such. Is this better than just putting in the complete 6-bolt? My goal is to use my car while he works on it and whens its ready to swap them. I know there are some 2nd gen parts i need to keep as well.

Can someone help me with telling me what I would need if I wanted to do this and if its a good idea? Or maybe there's a better plan someone has done? thanks!

It all depends what you want, people like the 7 bolt heads because the runners although are small have great velocity and what not while the 6 bolt head flows alot more due to having the big ports, i like running 7 bolt heads people like them, good for torque and alot of people i knwo have put down amazing power with them. but if you decide to use the 7 botl head on the 6 bolt block you will need to have the holes drilled to fit 6 bolt head studs/bolts thats just my quick response.

The thing is I dont know what i want haha. Ive never did anything like this before. I guess im trying to take the easiest route. Ive looked up the advantages of multiple ways of doing this but Im still confused...

There are like a million write ups on this matter. Karking has a simple, yet really really expensive way to do this, but if that is not the case, try RRE, Magnus Motorsports, 1gina2g Yahoo Groups, and many others have this done. I would post the write ups, but the file sizes are too big for this site. Its relatively simple, yet buying all the conversion parts are what breaks your wallet. Buying this for a 6 bolt, buying that for a 6 bolt, that is what the pain in the ass is.

You can find more on some other sites. Hope this helps. And yes, you can build the 6 bolt with whatever you want, use the block and the 6 bolt parts, and use your 2g head. The head holes are 11mm, but the 1g's are 12mm, so they have to be bored 1mm over... And if you need further explanation, call one of the vendors about it. Like FFWD, they have every single tip you could think of on this. They have done it all and seen it all, so give em a shot...
