I recently assembled this engine and it currently has about 70 miles on it. I used the mototune break in method with a T61 at 17psi.
Should I be worried about #2 compression being low or wait and put some more miles on it and see if it improves? The engine doesn't smoke at all and runs perfect but this bothers me. I set the ring gaps to .019 top and .023 second ring.
This is using Wiseco 8.3:1 pistons.

Do a leak down test if you can. Who did the valve job? You may be loosing compression there... Did you try putting some oil on the #2 piston and re-checking compression? I'd do a little more investigating, that much variance would bother me.

I would still wait a while. I didnt even check mine until about 250 miles on the motor and i had 180 across the board with my weisco 8.3's. IT wouldnt hurt to do more tests and checks, but i wouldnt really start worrying until 300+ miles on the motor. Thats just my thought on the issue, others might start worrying now.

The valves are fine. I had this head on my last engine and everything was fine. Valve job was done about 2,000 miles ago.
I guess i'm just going to have to wait and see if it improves. Even if it doesn't, i'll just wait till winter time to re-ring #2 anyway.

Hey, it's you! (Cleveland Racing FTW!)

Anyway, as you probably know, I just finished my rebuild and I put almost exactly 60 miles on it, mostly on my way to the shootout. I varied the RPM quite a bit. I checked my compression last night and I had 155 on each with a grand total of 59 miles on the clock. I don't know if that helps much, but that is on a junkyard head (I did the overnight "oil test" on the valves, no leaks). I would definitely say there is something wrong.

Did you spend some time tuning your engine with your DSM link and wide band O2 prior to preforming the mototune break in procedure?

Yes, I made sure the a/f ratios were up to par and wasn't drowning the engine in fuel. Everything is fine now after 1,000 miles. Compression came up on #2 and all cylinders are within 3-4 psi across the board. Readings are now 150 across dead cold and 170's across warm.
This is actually one of the blocks that I picked up from you. Thanks again.
