Can't move balance shaft sprocket

Hey guys, me and my brother are doing a balance shaft belt on my 91 auto AWD, and we get under the car and try to line up the balance shaft sprocket and it wont turn. It's about 180 degrees off of where it needs to be. Before I got the car it through a timing belt and a balance shaft belt, so is there somthing were missing or is my motor shot?
 
I bought my last dsm like that the balance shaft tied up broke the belt and took the tbelt with it. I mean it was sized up real bad, I just bought a kit and took the balance shafts out and I never had another problem!
 
To install the kit, you will need to also remove the entire oil pump assy to gain access to the balance shafts. You need to knock out the balance shaft bearings and press in the new block off sleeves. To get the balance shafts out you need to remove the DP, oil pan, the transfer case and drop the motor down by removing two motor mounts and loosening the other two. Even if you are already doing a timing belt, there is still lots of additional work, but they do have instructions. You will also need the oil pump gasket and the oil filter housing gasket for your year vehicle. The oil pan goes on with silicone. It is a full weekend job laying under the car with oil dripping on your face for the average guy doing it at home with the motor in the car.

This is RRE's description of the work. You can do it with the motor in, but it's definitely not an in-and-out deal.
 
I just did this with the engine in the car. It's possible. It's a PITA, and it will take you 9 hours (or in my case, more). :p
 
when I did it in the dsm I told you about it was my first time ever doing it and it was with the motor in the car. It was a pita but it took me and another guy about 3 1/2hrs but we both had worked on many dsm's. I did it with the vfaq write up. If you like the car dont sell it due to this you will regret it hard core. If you were thinking of getting rid of it and you dont wanna do it go ahead.
 
Yea I mean the car hasn't run since I got it it needed some work which I already did, and now all it needed was the belts and turbo put on and I was gunna start it and now this happens. I was going to sell it right after I got it running anyway, I dont want an auto.
 
To get the front balance shaft out I used a Saw Zaw and cut it out in pieces since it would not come out as whole, when installed new bearings I used the Freeze Plug Installer with the swivel head, good luck!
 
You want to part out your car because you don't want to remove the BShafts? What's wrong with you? There's nothing complicated in that at all. It doesn't take 9 hours and you can remove that shaft from the car without cutting it. You just need a good jack since you will need to remove the cross member by the drivers side and lower the motor for the shaft to clear the frame. Not rocket science.

Just follow the VFAQ. There's always a first time. ;)
 
Ok, well I understand that it's not that much work, but still I dont want the car. This is just another reason to get rid of it. I bought it planning to swap over to manual, but that didn't work out either. I still love dsm's, and im gunna get another AWD with the money from this one. So thanks for the help anyway guys.
