Adjustable Cam Gears?

Also Skunk2. It's what I run. A little confusing installing them since they follow the Honda philosophy of "lining up the dots" rather than the Mitsu philosophy. But we got through it. I got these because they had to most holding bolts I could find and once I get cams and their timed, I don't want to take a chance of them slipping. Essentially, I'm a paranoid freak.

I went to a store and if your not down with spending like atleast $300 you can get camgears from Pilot for $95 a piece and you can get them in red blue or silver!!! its up to you its all about the name

It's not all about a name... it's all about build quality. If a cam gear slips it's gonna cause your valves to bend. Do you really want to save a $100 on a part that could cost you several thousand if it fails?

Skunk2 no longer makes gears for DSMs. Some of the better ones that I have seen that don't cost a fortune are the new ones from Fidanza.. I think I saw some good prices on them at DDP. Also unless you use shitty cams or a head/block that has been decked quite a bit... you shouldn't even need cam gears.

yup ken is right, AEM and HKS are like guarantees they are atleast decent if not good plus people here have used them so its not like they are going to suck or someone would have said something

Unorthodox makes good ones too. They say to go with gears that have more locking bolts to prevent slippage, but who knows if that is really a factor or not.

STR makes some, but nobody sells em except for JCW, they run $150 each, but I think theyre garbage.

Wow.. that's really nice.... so how exactly are you supposed to time them in the 9oclock position?

its no different then changing the #s were at the top.. just line up the etch with the # you want it at.. perty simple.. now setting them so both cams were at TDC was a pita.. easier now that Wes has made another mark on the other side of the cam gear so its alot easier to read and see

Leave it to an american company to #@%#@%#@%#@% them up... I really think you got a bad set.. cuz I've seen crowers that had the marks on the top... might wanna give them a call? Or just live w/ it...

Uh... a little info on the crower cam gears. They are enscribed backwards of what our engines turn. Advance is retard and retard is advance. Crower must have just copied the timing marks of their honda gears for the Counter Clockwise rotating honda engines. Typical of a US company making parts for DSM's. "It's an import so it muct be like a honda attitude."

Just thought you guys might like to know that.

putting o adj cam gears will gives you the chance to ghange the timing of your cams. i think it was in # 35 or # 37 issue of impot tuner they pot them on a 98 rs and got 7 hp +2on the intake side and -2 on the exhaust side. if your are looking to purchase cam gears. got to www.howellautomotive.com and look at the fidanza cam gears.their only 239.00 for the set of 2. cam gears are a good start. if your looking for more of an alternative you might want to look into buying cams also. it will broaden more hp wi the 2. its just and idea. it depends on how much money your looking to spend. go to www.crower.com for cams. i have the fidanza cam gears and the stage 3 crower cams. and i'll tell you what big difference on what the 2 can do. but i haven't set the cam gears yet still on 0 on both sides.
keep in touch and let me know
